Another housing scandal 20:30 - Jan 30 with 1397 viewsClapham_Junction

Saw the news in Metro today about the MoD housing sell-off and it's infuriating. Can't find the online version, but the Independent have the same story: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/ministry-of-defence-privatise-mili

Is there even a pretence any more that this sort of thing was about getting value for money? It seems to be increasingly the case that the public sector is a cashcow for private interests.

The most frustrating thing is that once stuff is sold off, it's often almost impossible to get back except at great cost. An ideologically dogmatic government can sell off shedloads of public assets in a short space of time (usually just to cover revenue shortfalls) and we end up paying the price for decades...

Is hindsight really needed for stuff like this? Wasn't it obvious at the time that the government would end up shelling out far more that it was getting in as a one-off lump sum?
