People switch between supporters and customers depending on which one fits their agenda. If Milne said we get an average of XXXXX customers each week people would go nuts but it fits the agenda at the moment to say we're customers.

Not a bad article from Watson. "Mexit" ho ho on 13:24 - Feb 19 with 1086 views | Darth_Koont | Hmmmm. The customer analogy is still stupid, but he got one bit right at the end: "When outsiders ask ‘what do Ipswich fans realistically expect?’ they — and McCarthy — miss the point entirely. This over-riding feeling of disillusionment runs far deeper than simply the position in the table." Yes, and it's not tied to the manager. There's also Evans role in the current partnership, there's his ten years as owner and there's 15 years in this division, all against a backdrop of football losing its way certainly as far as middle- to small-sized clubs are concerned. A new manager won't get a fair crack of the whip unless a lot of fans readjust their expectations and stop projecting all that on to the manager and his squad.

Your last paragraph is spot on. If we're going to have a chance of getting out of this division there are only three ways it's going to happen: 1) we get relegated, 2) either ME or someone else chucks some serious money at it, 3) the club manages to build something on current resources and has a blinder of a season. For 3) to happen it needs everyone pulling together and that can't happen when our fans are demanding top 6 and champagne football. It needs some of the academy products to come good and flourish, some astute signings and a manager who is able to go to work without fear of the fans turning if it's still 0-0 at half time. We need to be realistic about where we are and actually get behind the players instead of constantly grousing that we're no longer big hitters at this level let alone having any kind of entitlement to be playing at the level above.
