Pub conversation recently. If Football clubs were bands what would they be?
Manchester United: U2 - were once stupendously good but are now chucking increasing amounts of money at albums that are underwhelming (e.g the one they auto downloaded onto all iTunes accounts)
Manchester City: Kanye West. Bling but with some talent.
..... and so on.... and then our beloved came up..... my drinking partners suggested....
Def Leppard: briefly phenomenally popular and successful in the 80s but haven’t done much since.

Ipswich are like an indie band who were critically acclaimed in the early years, punching well above their weight and having minor hits and a steady cult status. Everyone felt sure they were destined for international stardom so they sign for a major label who initially throws a lot of money at them to take them to the next stage but it just doesn't happen. You're not sure how many albums they put out on the major, you don't see them mentioned in the reviews anymore or appear on Jools Holland, you have to check wikipedia to see if they were quietly dropped or split up. I was thinking someone like the House of Love or the Mighty Lemon Drops.

Massive for a few years although never getting the acclaim they really deserved. Had a lean period where they fell off the radar before a short lived glorious comeback and then back into oblivion again.

Norwich after their last couple of games - The Levellers. They seem to celebrate it like it was the ultimate in football, so they may as well re-name the club in honour of this magnificent achievement.
