Evans' biggest mistake 15:39 - Mar 15 with 1307 viewsitfcjoe

Not backing Mick to spend the Murphy £3m in August - it wrote of that season and we've not recovered.

McCarthy was the perfect manager for Evans strategy, he clearly over estimated how much credit he thought Mick had in the bank and now he's going to to have to get rid of the only manager who has made his ownership look anything but a shambles.

Jan 2015 was worse.

Should have gone for it and didnt.

1) Buying the club in the first place

2) Appointing Keane at a time when it was still possible to buy promotion for a few million and the right appointment would have got us up

3) Not backing Mick more when we were in the top 2 in January

4) Not replacing Murphy immediately

A big mistake yes but January & Summer 2015 were worse IMO.

Both of those were serious mistakes.

Whilst the Murphy sale and failure to reinvest the money was directly responsible in my view for our lowest league finish for 60 years, I am still more annoyed about the Mings money.

£8m for a player that cost £10,000! We could easily have banked £5m against the debt, been over the bloody moon with a phenomenal profit and given Mick a decent chunk of money to add 2 or 3 players to the squad.

Same with being top at Boxing Day and not giving him anything more than £150,000 to spend. We should have added 2 or 3 then and really pushed on.

So many wasted chances though.

Yes, although it was the timing of that sale as much as anything — three days before the end of the window I think. It all combined to make a situation that put Mick firmly on the back foot and we've been scratching around ever since really.

Completely agree on all your points. Which is why I still don't blame MM to the degree that most on here do. Yes, he does have the odd brain fart with tactics and formations but who could do better under the restrictions that Evans has put on the club.
