I might be in the minority but I think we will do much better than usual. Look at what teams like Wales have achieved and Northern Ireland. They have inferior players but have players that want to play for their country. I would rather have a Pope, Tarkowski and Mawson playing their hearts out for their country having never imagined they would get that chance than Hart, Stones and Smalling going through the motions for their 50th caps. I think we might do very well. |  |

We won’t return pointless and it won’t even be our worst tournament performance this decade, but yes the current side is pretty underwhelming

Not sure about Ox, I'd much prefer Wilshere in there myself.
Keeper is a tough one this summer, certainly between Butland or Pope IMO, but I think I'd go with Butland. | |

They can't do any worse than the bunch of failures that the media kept calling the "golden era" who consistently put in rubbish performances for many years. In fact until England teams are picked on current form they will continue to fail. Mind you the FA appear to have a new performance coach as they are finally looking at stopping players eating simple sugars and testing them for asthma, something they should have done in the 70's. |  | | |

We're led to believe that the reason England is awful at football is because of the number of foreigners in the Premier League. But there were no foreigners to speak of when we failed to qualify for 1974 and 1978 and didn't win a game in the 1982 finals.
It does seem to finally be sinking in with the fans that England haven’t got a prayer in the World Cup but I listened to Chris Waddle at the draw for the finals who thought that we would win our group with maximum points and beat Poland in the last 16.
