Seeing tweedle dee and tweedle dum sitting there at the press conference after what they did to Johnny Bairstow a few months ago was funny, the game has a way of biting you on the arse.

They admitted it in the presser, video below. Bancroft used sticky tape to collect dirt from the pitch to rub against the ball then shoved it down his pants when he reaslised the test match was being filmed. Pretty disgraceful from smith, who’s never seemed anything like a decent bloke in any case.

Problem with banning Australia for any significant period is that it could damage Test cricket even more than a ball-tampering scandal.
Players/teams/national organisations are losing interest enough already, chasing the big money in T20 (the spectacular bits of cricket with none of the strategy and finesse, short enough for the modern attention span*).
* This is not just a cheap jibe. I know a specialist in the field who tells me that attention spans in younger people are actually getting shorter. Some children are unable to concentrate long enough to read even a single A4 page of text. | |

Have to say I have (A tiny) little bit of sympathy for Cameron Bancroft. He's young and there has been talk today about how desperate he is to represent Australia and that dilemma of being told to do something against his better judgement that would maybe get him kudus with the players that matter.
