For me it's a little uninspiring, he's had some success along with some failures.
Historically you could see the logic with the appointments of Jewell, Keane and Mick who all had promotion from this league on their CV, however, as we all know it doesn't mean that with them at the helm that promotion is a given.
Fact is Evans isn't a gambler, he like's a safe pair of hands, I really can't see him taking a punt on someone from the lower leagues.
So, in essence you could argue someone like McLaren has a point to prove, he's almost getting to last chance saloon in his managerial career, so should have the bit between his teeth.
