NZ v Eng 2nd Test 23:11 - Mar 29 with 3191 viewsgainsboroughblue

Great start again. 6-1, Cook gone.

Stoneman looks a walking wicket at the other end and Vince comes into join him.

Joy.

Given we were 20 something for 9, I actually considered that innings a success story.

But we’ve dropped the first inning top scorer. Where will the runs come from this time?

That's well and good, but were struggling to replace one opener as it is.

I enjoyed Michael Vaughan's observation that you get bowled out for 50 odd so you replace the bowlers.

Exactly. Who on earth do we pick? The cupboard is so bare it's ridiculous. It's all well and good Root saying he wants to bat 4 but he's effectively a 3 (or even an opener) as it is.

You also have to question the coaching. So many of our top order players flailing at wide ones, getting stuck in the crease etc.

I don't buy the argument that it's a legacy of 2020. It's just us. I agree, coaching needs a serious reboot.

Problem, is we beat everyone at home, so cracks are papered over every six months.

Agree the cupboard is so bare but hate watching him consistently look a walking wicket when the ball moves. Looking forward to see what Leach does but I'm afraid Overton at 75mph is not the answer.
On the plus side just started booking some hotels this evening for Sri Lanka in November, Galle and Kandy (Pallekelle) tests and some beaches anyone else making the trip?

I’ll accept responsibility for Cook’s dismissal.

Realised the cricket had started, turned it on and Cook was out five seconds later.

Oops. Sorry.

There are quite a few whose places are under threat in the England side, Cook being one of them. I hope Vince can get a score he looks a terrific player when in full flow, but he hasn’t been consistent enough in test cricket in his short international career. Still a lot of questions about England’s batting and bowling, however have we got the players to replace them?

I thought about watching an hour or so last night but glad I went to bed at 11 now.

http://www.espncricinfo.com/series/10883/game/1115781/new-zealand-vs-england-2nd

Excellent stuff from Bairstow and Wood, rather mixed from the rest of them. There's definitely an issue with concentration under Baylis, far too few patient innings especially if Cook and Root don't score many.

We'll do ok at home this Summer, lose a couple of Tests poorly but win the rest convincingly I suspect but it might be Cook's last one. Given that Strauss hasn't been convincingly replaced in six years that may be even more of a problem.

We were having this exact discussion in the office yesterday - it’s probably the right time to for Cook to give it up (end of the summer) but who the fook replaces him?

Our best bet is that he has a good summer for England, scores a couple of centuries, & we get another 18 months out of him because there is no one anywhere near the standard to be an playing test opener.

Jennings & Hameed are next in line but they both had woeful summers last year, they really must prove themselves this.

Evans out
