Here we see the board Socialist question the use of "tax payers money" to helping to alleviate and improve the societies of some of the poorest and most isolated countries in the world.

Unless you mean the athletes and their funding which comes in very large part from the National Lottery?

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Ahh wrong again.

This is a country which allows extensive rough sleeping, kills people by disallowing benefits and has private companies judging the disabled fit to work days before their death and yet is happy to give £millions to athletes. Am I missing something here?

You think those people you allude to should be funded by the National Lottery?

Are you suggesting that most vulnerable and poorest of society have their troubles alleviated by using money spent largely by slightly less poor and vulnerable people?

Well, quite. Leaving a wider economic and political union on the basis on blinkered 'stop taling your country down and get behind it' nationalism would be utter stupidity in this day and age, right?

It does open a debate whether Government, or National Lottery should fund athletes at all. Unfortunately a lot of our athletes do not have the benefit of high profile sponsorship as say, the Americans do and can't therefore go full time without a "salary" from other sources.
