I would be in favour of anything which gives a genuine shake-up to the current, ossified party political structure. What we currently have are a party born in the aftermath of 1688 and confirmed in the 19th century, a party designed for the industrial troubles preceding the First World War and, finally, the rump of the original progessive outfit before Labour stole its clothes. Plus a few parties based on regional chauvinism. And a Green. None of them are really that different in approach (except the Green). We need better - or at least, more relevant - than that. | |
