Blackburn Wigan and Rotherham 21:53 - Apr 19 with 1741 viewsSuperblue95

Blackburn and Wigan look like they have the top two wrapped up in league one. If Rotherham win the play-offs then that will mean the 3 relegated sides have all been promoted again the following season.

Does anyone remember a case of this ever happening before in any division in England?

The closest I can remember was 97-98 when Forest and Boro went straight back up. Sunderland lost in play off final to Charlton.

On a similar theme, Bolton, Palace and Barnsley all went down in that very 97-98 season having been promoted the year before, so we came very close to the 98-99 Premier League having exactly the same teams in it as 96-97.

When Derby got promoted to the prem about a decade ago I think they beat West Brom to stop all three teams bouncing straight back, but I'm not not 100% on that.

Strange really you would think it's the sort of thing that would happen every few years or so

Yes, they did. Brum and Sunderland went up with Derby.

Also looking possible that none of the clubs promoted from the Championship will be relegated down from the Prem. Huddersfield currently closest, but six points clear with 4 games left. Should be safe.
