Tips for getting out of Wembley 16:05 - May 18 with 4625 viewsBlueinBrum

Not just a thinly veiled "look at me" I promise - i have been jammy enough to get an invite for the cup final tomorrow. Prawn sandwiches and all.

However after the game I need to make a swift exit towards central London and was wondering if anyone had any tips on how best to escape the area among the crowds.

My knowledge is a little outdated given the last time I was there for a football match was May 2000.... but I'm presuming definitely best to avoid the tube lines, thinking Wembley stadium to Marylebone may be slightly better?

Cheers

Employ Mick McCarthy to navigate you and tell him you're in the 3rd round. You'll be nowhere near Wembley in no time...

Would it be poor form to leave 10 mins early?

Plan b/ I wonder if you could get a UBER to take you to the next underground stop - otherwise it will take over an hour to get on the platform I reckon.

I will judge the vibe at the time but i think it probably would. Was thinking of something like that or even just walking west for a bit to pick up bakerloo or overground

The Marlyebone line would be a disaster. Few trains and long queues.

Just suffer the crush to Wembley Park. You will get a jump on half the crowd by not waiting for the presentations. If you need to take the train one stop north (always quieter) and double back on yourself.

I suppose you could walk to Wembley Central or even Stonebridge Park.

Word of warning. When I came out of a concert there I wasn't concentrating and ended up in the middle of nowhere.

It had all changed since I was there last. I ended up on the North Circular.

They restrict the access and far fewer trains. Worse than Wembley Park.

It's so grim around there. Essentially a giant industrial estate.

If i wasn't in a rush to go out elsewhere i'd probably just walk home to West Hampstead.

Walk to Stonebridge Park, 20 mins for a long legged youngster like you.

I think i might try this. It looks like it would require walking past Wembley Stadium station (Marylebone line) so if by some miracle that was not too busy could jump on there, otherwise keep on walking to SP

Helicopter

Considering there'll be 90,000 or so people coming out of the stadium there will be no quick public transport egress...

On a serious note have you looked into Limobike Services? [That's motorbike rather than pedal cycle] Don't know if they still exist.

UBER's surge pricing will be in effect, will probably cost 4 times more than normal.

Get the train, not the tube, the one that goes into Marylebone. Never understood why tens of thousands of people insist on standing in line for Wembley Park after events there.

I did that the last time there, it was slightly less crammed although the first trains you wait for will be too full to get on

Having been to Wembley well over 100 times since the new stadium opened, I concur with the Lord on this. Unless you leave early, like around 88th minute, you will almost certainly hit queues at Wembley Park, Wembley Central and Wembley Stadium stations.

Walk to Preston rd on the Met line. It’s one stop further up but you won’t queue to get into the station and you’ll go straight through Wembley Park no bother. I used to live on Preston Road and know that this works.

It's a 25-minute walk from stadium (North side) to Preston Road tube. Beware if you're unfit - it's an undulating mile or so!!!
