The mistake you're making is assuming Derby fans are rational people

Yes, I guess that is true. I've got a few Derby mates & they are just loathed to believe anything positive will happen to their club (promotion). Same with a Leeds fan I know. Never optimistic, always waiting for the proverbial falling piano around the corner to spectacularly land on the he club.

Didn't get Derby into the playoffs with a very decent budget

He did this season

I’m going to stick my neck out here and say I actually quite rate Rowett. Particularly for the job he did at Birmingham before one of the most unjust sackings I’ve ever known. I get joy out of him sticking his middle finger up to the Brum owners and I hope he has some success (although I’m pleased this wasn’t promotion at scum filled Derby).

Perhaps a little risky but I do genuinely think he’ll do quite well at Stoke.

I think now is a good time to get out of Derby, they are having to cut back because of FFP - but have an aging squad of players on decent length contracts and high wages - and none are really sellable assets.

That's a very difficult job for who goes in there next, Rowett making a sensible move in my view.

When he took over from Steve McClaren at Derby in March 2017 they were 10th on a poor run of form, that doesn't give him long to turn things around. This season they have finished in the play offs. There have been other managers that have struggled at Derby with similar budgets, but I bet most of their supporters would accept play offs most seasons which he has achieved. What he did at Birmingham City was impressive too, look who has managed them since and they have been nowhere near what he achieved at St Andrews.

It's like he's successful with the new manager bounce.

I'd like to see him have a full season or two somewhere.

Rowett didn't have the new manager bounce when he first arrived, they finished 9th. Did he not have all of last season to get Derby in the play offs?
