Does it matter? What would be the problem if they had approached/agreed it with Ross without St Mirren's consent?

They clearly wouldn't have refused permission, but on the face of it either the story if complete nonsense or (maybe more likely) Sunderland have been talking to Ross without permission.

Why would Ross, a decent man by all accounts, speak with them without St Mirren's consent, when he knows that they would no doubt agree for them to speak with him. Makes no sense at all. Unless Ross is the sort of bloke we wouldn't want at our club.
