Terry needs to make more money...

I hate defending him, but he is 37... not really much more in him in the English game. Might have a year of life in him for China or USA though

Or they just can't afford him. They say they need to make some significant changes before next season.

This. I'm pretty sure he had more lucrative offers than Villa last summer, some from abroad. I don't like the guy either, but I do think his motivation for Villa wasn't entirely one based on how much they'd pay him.

Villa were going to offer him a contract where he didn't have to play against Chelsea if they'd have got promotion, if I was a Villa fan I'd have been raging at that.

I heard he also wanted a clause saying he could wear his chelsea kit for all team photos

If I was a Villa fan I'd be raging that that piece of scum was ever allowed near my football club

He was being paid £60,000 a week at Villa. Can’t he manage to live on that much?

Not sure what take that is. I wasn't suggesting he wasn't paid well, my only point was that he's perhaps not the mercenary he's made out here to be (as he had better financial offers).

And now you made me stick up for him. Ugh

They can’t afford to pay him that next season.

Looking at it impartially.....20k per week for 40+ games slogging away in the Championship....or x5 or x10 (or more) that salary for a new life experience in the sun.

Having seen the interview - that wasn't exactly what was said. It was a Steve Bruce quip after a journalist put a hypothetical question towards him about Terry.

Are you saying that people might be blowing things out of proportion based on their hatred of John Terry...?

I'm certainly no fan of the guy, but respect him as a footballer. Could still walk into any Prem team outside the Top 7 or 8.

He didn't want to play in the top flight against Chelsea. Unsure why as he'll get a rapturous reception. He opted to take a pay-cut & drop down a division - although £60k pw limits his options.

The 3rd season of slashed parachute money kiboshes any chance of him staying. Course, doesn't mean he couldn't head to Stoke or WBA.

No, Villa need to spend far less money.

Yep, they've really got to start cutting costs or will be in a spot of bother apparently. Derby too. Stoke will be the big spenders this season. Can't see WBA or Swansea spending like Villa did. Might be a bit (tiny bit) of an easier league to break into the top 6 this year.

The silly pace the English game is played at makes it no place for anyone over 30

The point that was being made was they cant afford him now. They would probo pay him 10k now. All round probo decided best to part ways and can have a year in US and his last chance to do so.

Not a great bloke but always served his clubs very very well and given his all.
