John Askey appointed Shrewsbury boss after Macclesfield triumph 10:50 - Jun 1 with 976 viewsmonty_radio

Having convincingly led Macclesfield back into the league, John Askey has been appointed manager of Shrewsbury 48 hrs after Hurst departed (B.B.C. sport).

What a relief it will be to learn that Shrewsbury, having had no idea that Hurst might depart, had contacted no agents and put out no feelers before plundering an up-and-coming lower-league talent, leaving Macclesfield bereft in their hour of triumph.

Hardly the same though, is it. Macclesfield's season finished on 28th April.

I'm not saying we did anything wrong. But it's very likely whatever groundwork we were doing to get Hurst could have impacted on Shrewsbury's campaign - potentially the difference between getting promoted or not, albeit far too hypothetical to judge.

Either way, I wouldn't begrudge them feeling p***ed off with us.

best footballing non-league team (or were). I saw them against York in last seasons trophy final and although York bullied them to win 3-2, macc were very impressive.
