This isn't about your Ronaldos, or your Zindanes. These are the guys who make the world cup great, without ever quite being properly great themselves.
GK: Jose Luis Chilavert DL: Taribo West DC: Rigobert Song DC: Sinisa Mihailovic DR: Tomas Helveg MR: Cobi Jones MC: Robert Prosinecki MC: Carlos Valderamma ML: Yordan Lechkov FC: Tomas Brolin FC: Roger Milla

I think the whole Cameroon team could be included on this list. One of the most unlikely upsets of all time. The World cup holders with Maradona and Co vs the African minnows. Its worth noting Cameroon played half an hour with 10 min and finished with 9. To be fair Cameroon were unlucky not to advance in the 82 World Cup after going unbeaten in a very tough group

Diouf or Diao from Senegal 2002 would be shouts I'd say.
Helveg was different gravy to all channel 4 watchers back then for Udinese's run to 3rd in Serie A 97/98 - it was zero surprise to all he shone in France.
That isn't a typo, Udinese really did come 3rd that season. Amoroso + Bierhoff made a dream partnership!
Helveg moved to Milan more on the back of his stellar season with Udinese, and won a title 98/99 in a very poor MIlan side.

Hagi, Stoichkov, and Toto Schillachi should all be there...
I’d also bung Trifon Ivanov in just for the Beard and the game where he got hit in the balls and the pupil part of his eyes just disappeared. He just had the white bit of his eyes. It was unbelievable.

Trifon Ivanov was brilliant, yes.
Also, this guy should really be there:

Carlos Valderamma Alexi Lalas The Columbia scorpion kick keeper
Alexei Lalas brilliant, yes. The scorpion kick was in a friendly match, but Higuita's best moment was surely being tackled by Roger Milla on the half-way line.

Ray Wilson, who died very recently. The least known, but possibly the best player for his position in the '66 England team - only Moore might equal him.
