Body Language for Dummies- great photo! 08:52 - Jun 11 with 1394 viewsconnorscontract

Trump has started a Trade War, destabilised the G7, and is now linking all of that to NATO and raising the question as to whether USA should bother to defend NATO allies. And he has ended the strategic aiance with Iran which saw US and Iran provide the military cover to those opposing both ISIS/Daesh and Assad's Syrian regime, leaving him able to rebuild his position.

If it were possible for Putin to influence a US Election and get his puppet installed I would imagine his To Do List would be pretty much ticked off by now.

Point of order: Iran is Assad's strongest backer. Removing their influence from Syria will not help him rebuild his position. There was no formal alliance between the USA and Iran against IS, indeed they were deliberately not actually talking to each other, except through the Iraqi government.

All the other stuff stands, altho I don't think it was as simple as installing a puppet to do Putin's bidding. Trump isn't really (or reliably) that and, in any case, was elected and policy-inspired by a sizeable domestic element within the USA (which favours America First, trade protectionism, international isolationism, is friendly to Israel and thus hostile to Iran). They are even mildly sympathetic to Russia's territorial aims (as long as they're far away and not anywhere they want themselves).

The reasons for pursuing a detente with North Korea are not just peace and diplomatic success, but also a chance to reduce international military deployment.

Obama signed the nuclear deal with Iran, lifted sanctions, and the Quds Brigade General Allahdadi went in to co-ordinate strategy against Daesh, including co-operating with the Pashmerga, who are violently anti-Assad (with good reason).

Beyond that it all gets very confusing.

But that was only co-operating with the Peshmerga in Iraq. Not the YPG in Syria (where most of the Iranian involvement has been in the south and west - which is what's freaking the Israelis out). And the co-ordination aspect was over the Shi'a militias fighting alongside the Iraqi Army and in the same direction as (but specifically segregated from) the Kurds.

The nuclear deal had no wider scope than that issue and the sanctions directly relating to it, making no mention of co-operation, military or otherwise. It was all part of a general warming of the atmosphere under Obama, but contained nothing about a relationship. The USA still has no formal diplomatic representation in Iran (tho there was talk of the embassy reopening). There were still other sanctions in force, relating to things like the missile programme.

Also on Putin's To-Do list was to influence Brexit and destabilise European cooperation via that route - he's got a big tick in the box for that one.

For Trump muppetry please add asking for Russian to be brought back into the G7, you know following a poisoning attack on the UK and conclusive proof they shot down a Dutch civilian plane with massive loss of life... yes COME ON IN

And of course Trunp will not get plaudits for the North Korea summit.. and the commentary will starty again - 'Trump is effective and a model'... BOLLOX

Seems to be, but then that seems to be the new normal for 'diplomacy' - slagging people off on Twitter.

I like Guy. One of the clear lessons of the Brexit farce so far is that we would be much better as part of a bigger group with people like Verhofstadt or Barnier doing the negotiation on our behalf, than on our own with Muppets like Davis going up against them.

As the young people would say, I think you have schooled me there. Interesting, thanks.
