Underrated band. From Can't Buy A Thrill in 72 to Gaucho in 80, 7 sh!t hot albums in 8 years. Complex as ***k musically, using all the best musicians they could get, with production so tight their albums are used to test Hi-Fi equipment. But's not just virtuoso fretw@nk, they have the tunes and the lyrics are intelligent, tell a story and are blackly humorous in places.
For me they're up there with Pink Floyd, Bowie and Zeppelin as one of the great bands of the 70s. I can't remember the last time I heard a song of theirs on the radio and I listen to mostly oldie stations in the day. Maybe not underrated, more underappreciated by a wider audience
Not sure they're particularly underrated, at least by people who know music. Even if their style is not always to one's taste, impossible to deny the top quality.
Though underappreciated is probably more accurate than underrated.
A lot of people seem to only like music that whilst some of which is nicely produced and has a catchy tune, can only be described as easily accessible homogeneous and bland. I.e. they aren't really particularly into music.

Ah, you'd beaten me to it :)
I wouldn't put Bowie in the same league as Floyd, Zeppelin or Steely Dan...
