Sir Bob tried to sign Shilton and Pat Jennings. Bart's definitely up there near the top. Richard Wright probably ahead of him at his best for us, I'd say. |
Wright was a better all round keeper for us.
Kelvin Davis was better than Bart imo also.
Bart is a great shot stopper, but his all round game isn't top level imo. |  | | |

Not a popular opinion I know, but for me Sereni is probably the best I've seen, edging it over Wright and Cooper.

I think his kicking is not as good as it might be bit as you say shot-stopping-wise it's difficult to get better. His mentality is very good as well, I remember chatting to him once about getting over mistakes and not dwelling on them, I think that's something which comes with experience for goalkeepers.

I started watching when Bailey in goal. Of those since him for me Paul Cooper is the best.
How anyone can say he was the weak link amazes me. We had a great side then of 11 very good players. Yes he had Hunter and Beattie in front but he was still a very good keeper.

It is a good debate and there is no denying that Cooper was a good keeper for us but at the moment when it comes to deciding my best ever keeper it would not be him.
In my opinion it is Bailey or Wright with Bart fast coming up as a challenger.
I also particularly liked Kelvin Davis and if Alexander had been here for a good deal longer he would be in my thoughts.
I would place Cooper no higher than fourth or maybe fifth in my list of keepers.

Agree Phil, he certainly seems to have that mentality that he is able to 'box up' a mistake and then address it later. | |

Interesting re Pat Jennings. Yes, Sir Bob was right not to sign him, but what a pity as in my view he was the greatest keeper from the UK in my lifetime with the possible exception of Gordon Banks.
Glad to see that Sereni has not had too many mentions. He was a tremendous shot-saver, but was lacking in every other area of goalkeeping craft. He was not a great keeper. A better all-round keeper would not have needed to make a good many of those spectacular saves.
Roy Bailey, David Best, Paul Cooper and Craig Forrest all good keepers. At his best Richard Wright was as good as any of these, if not better. | | | |

Pat Jennings would have been the perfect choice imo.
I suspect if Bart equals or betters RW's 240 appearances, and performs anything like he has for the past 2 seasons for his next 100+ games, he will surpass Wrighty. Thats quite an achievement.
Just hope the improved money etc doesn't have a demotivating effect, i doubt it will. |  |

Alexander only played 30 games for us, just don't think he can count because never had to bounce back from run of form or any adversity etc |
He was outstanding in that time though and definitely in the top 5 keepers i've seen play. Cooper, Forrest, Davies and Wright being amongst the pick of the rest along with Bart. |  |

He is one of the best we have had certainly top 3 and ahead of Paul Cooper who was not actually as good as people make out but played with 10 fantastic players in front of him. |
