No, but neither do the rest of Europe.

This United States of Europe/EUSSR trope is silly fear-mongering. As we're seeing and as a lot of Europe have long understood, the way to actually maintain national sovereignty is to seek the economies of scale benefits of aligning ourselves within a large political and economic bloc. Rather than being an ignored voice on the fringe of things that ends up getting pushed around even more.

The Greeks sure are loving those benefits at the moment arent they. To say nothing of the Spanish young unemployed.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!
Poll: With Evans taking 65% in Huddersfield, is the Banter Era over?

Maybe not but this underlines the national sovereignty that exists. If countries feck up within the framework of the EU or the Eurozone then it's ultimately their responsibility. They haven't handed that responsibility over to anyone else as many people seem to persist in saying.

Although Germany do like having a single currency to make their goods more affordable (over valued currencies) and then also provide a nice line in credit.....

What does that have to do with what I wrote? And the Eurozone is a whole new level of integration that countries could look at to see whether it suited them or not. Greece's well documented problems stem from them fudging their own books and apparently their defence is saying that someone should have stopped them!!??

On the flip side you can see how the majority of countries have hugely benefited from the EU or the Eurozone. Again it's about how countries choose to use these frameworks.

You believe Germany was correct in completely ignoring the Greek governments fraud in offering false figures to join the Euro?

Why are you convinced that the Germans "completely ignored the Greek governments fraud"? What figures did they have that weren't the Greeks own? Why did Goldman Sachs do some creative banking to hide the true debt? Why were there strict rules in the first place if the Germans didn't care?

And it still doesn't address the point about Greece's ultimate responsibility and sovereignty. Will anyone do that? Or are we going for more dubious whataboutery?

Indeed. I hate the sheer politics of it but makes sense. Why do they want the government's problem of having to deal with reality to become theirs? Or even worse that this becomes another pathetic red vs. blue issue?

It would however be nice if someone could stand up and take a hit for what is right. Stand up and tell people that the Leave vote can't be delivered on the terms it sold itself to the electorate on. And so the referendum result and how much of a mandate it currently gives must now be questioned.

So the Leave vote can be delivered on the terms it sold itself to the electorate on?

Go on then. I'm all ears.

Are you a Leaver? Did you vote to end The Good Friday Agreement? Do you care if The Good Friday Agreement has to be torn up in order for Brexit to proceed?

Any ideas, stig?

Or how about you, Frowsy?

The terms were to Leave the EU. Not stay in this or that or fudge this or that.

Crack on then
