So much more informative about players and performances.
And seems a lot less prickly than MM to any media questions.
Feels like we belong much more to what he is trying to do.

Reminds me of Mr Keane a bit

not afraid to dig at players, has certain expectations

Could go either way really

The Sir Alex way, players know the levels required, are at those levels, we're successful

The Roy Keane way, players hate him, don't play for him, and we struggle

Waka waka eh eh

Mick's* football press output was poor and lacked real footballing detail, it was all emotive and high level.

I remember contrasting some post match Warnock comments with Micks. Warnock spoke clearly about players, positions, system and shape. And you got a clear view of the performance.

* By the way this is not a question of 'letting go' of the MIck issue, its just that his last two seasons were appalling on so many levels, and it is so wonderfiul to contrast his attitude and behaviour with our new leaders ideas.

I'd say Paul Hurst has the toughest job of any incoming Ipswich manager, he's inherited a mess with a fan-base totally dejected after years of crud football and decline. He seems to know hes got to hit this one out of the park if he's going turn it around.

Obviously we're not expecting promotion this season but we need to see him develop the side moving towards that over the next 5 years. If we're languishing near the bottom he wont be in the job very long and the support here will turn after a season.

If the players are not working for whatever reason he needs to show them the door and get people in who will, regardless of how long they've been here.

Everyone on this forum is always wrong.

Don´t think Mick was prickly at all. He was, most of the time, very honest and many fans praised him for that in the beginning (even though one did not agree with him all the time). I just think Mick got fed up with lack of funds, fans, etc, etc the last couple of seasons and were struggling for answers.

Yes, Hurst has definitely inherited a worse situation than McCarthy did.

And why should we expect promotion on a budget that is lower mid-table?

Also in the beginning it is more simple to say "we need better players, better commitment" etc and the fans accept that..for a while. When the going get´s tough, EVERYTHING is the managers fault according to some.
I feel a bit of fresh air with Paul, yes! But I am sick with people making Mick out worse than he was.

See I'd say almost the complete opposite. We have no real expectations this season, finances are fine for an up and coming manager and we've got a decent amount of quality in a tight-knit squad.

I'd say MM had the toughest job as a new ITFC manager. We were absolutely dreadful when he took over.

This.

Playing an incredibly dangerous game and up to the players as to whether they buy into it.

Mick just wouldn't give anything away and the press didn't seem to learn even after 5.5 years some questions were utterly pointless asking him.

I actually prefer Mick's approach to the media in keeping everything inhouse / better chance of everyone on side.

Sure, as fans we'll lap up Hurst's comments way more than Mick - and say ' wow that's good he doesn't think that player has played well either ' but in reality it's a very dangerous method and that boat can be rocked very, very quickly.

Hurst has a very good track record behind him, so here's hoping he can do a fantastic job with us also :)

Breath of fresh air. Nothing like Keane but will be demanding. Just hope he gets backing. Taken in £5.5m so far and saved wages on Didz. Spent £700k plus Bart wages and a loan fee. Fingers crossed but I can almost here Milne practicing the excuses!!!!! This is a test of Evans honesty with the fans.

I don't know what his history is with this sort of thing, but surely he is just doing this to start off with and basically saying he isn't going to accept certain things?

Surely he wants a few players out and a few players in but once we have our squad, I don't reckon he is going to be quite so open, but maybe he will.

its a different approach to the McCarthy ways, so lets see what happens.

I think people are overlooking the fact Hurst's got a lot riding on this. It's his first chance at this level and wants to make a real fit of it, hence being hypercritical. That's good; it's healthy. Most professionals walk into a job with exactly the same attitude, wanting to make a decent first impression. That will to succeed can be ebbed away in the wrong environments (boards, etc. in footballing terms). But as we know, ITFC doesn't really have any such problems. It's all down to Hurst.

I'd say Mick had a tougher job than Hurst has, Hurt has inherited a team with some good mix of experience and youth and squad unity.

Mick walked in with us 10 points adrift, with a team completely disenfranchised and lacking quality.

In what way dangerous? It’s an example. If it’s for real then so what. Chambers gets the hump. Who cares?

What do you mean who cares? You don’t think it would cause problems if Chambers took offence.

Thankfully, unlike some of our fans, Chambo can take a word of criticism from the manager without throwing his toys out the pram...

I didn't read it quite that way, it wasn't a criticism of Chambers personally, more a comment that he is the main man but no one is bigger than the collective. He was just highlighting the fact that the team is the most important aspect.

He's inherited the best squad and "mess" ever under Evans. What he's been left compared to what Mick inherited is light years apart.

He literally can do no wrong in some of the more deluded fans' eyes for months if not ever, just by virtue of not being Mick, and has a huge stock of credit in the bank with the majority of the fanbase. Even Evans is cashing in on it in PR terms.

It seriously baffles me how people can write stuff like this and not even jog their own memory of what has actually happened in the past 10 years.

I wouldn't say he's inherited the best squad to be honest, I think there are major flaws, but anyone suggesting that this situation is tougher than what Mick inherited, or even what porno Paul inherited, is just being daft.

When Mick came in it couldn't be any worse. When Jewell came in, did Keane leave better? Can't see that.

Jim to Roy might have been better without checking to be fair but that's a decade ago, so a fairly difficult sell but regardless, Hurst has been left a somewhat lopsided squad thanks to injuries and contracts running down but it's a squad we own and has lots of talent and potential.

The fact he's tied down Bart and is yet to sell Waghorn, Knudsen and although it looks likely, Garner only strengthens the point.
