Ok, so i expect a lot of downvotes 13:04 - Jul 19 with 6619 viewsFrimleyBlue

But, I have to be honest, none of our business or current links fill me with confidence at the moment

We lose Wags, the best we can hope to see is another from league 1,

we need cbs, coming from league 1

wingers, league 1

Are we going to get anyone who has experience in the championship?

I wouldn't expect anywhere near a top 10 finish, but at the moment, i'm genuinely concerned without some quality added to an already quality lacking side, will we actually have enough to compete at this level.

Experienced players are needed, we've never been the same since being parted with Chopra, Bowyer, Ellington, Reo-Coker, Ingimarsson, Lisbie etc

Funny you name those, but then ignore Berra, Chambers, Tabb as alternative experienced players we got in, once still here, the others provided great experience and at different points in their time with us, solid performances.

I haven't said we shouldn't be going lower league, of course we should, but i'd like to see a berra type signing

Exactly. Plenty of people moaned about the Garner signing. In fairness, Phil reported at the time it was £1m. Plenty of people were not thrilled by the signing. I think if it was reported as a quarter of that people would have largely been positive.

Berra, Tabb and Chambers all had a few more miles left on the clock than most of who I mentioned, even so, the sum of their parts is most certainly the minority, so my omission was anything but selective reasoning

It wasn't a quarter of that, was around £800,000. Not sure I said £1 million without qualifying it to some degree; 'reported', 'believed to be', something along those lines. Waghorn was £200,000, according to Mick, the pair cost a million-ish combined, I think.

I'm not suggesting you said it was set in stone, but it was a believed to be type statement and £1m was definitely the figure in the news story wasn't it? I swear £250k was the figure banded about all last season. Thought it was confirmed as much lower than £800k. Obviously confusing the Waghorn fee.

I had in my head they were both £250k or thereabouts and we'd paid £500k for both. Not doubting Phil though. Clearly that wasn't the case.

Just had a look back and the £1m came from the Daily Mail on Waghorn when the news first broke:

Rangers Striker Waghorn Set to Join Blues 6th Aug 2017 23:37
Rangers are reported to have accepted a bid of around £1 million from Town for striker Martyn Waghorn. 70

Looking back at Garner, it was initially reported as £500,000 then £1 million - and I actually didn't qualify it at the time the deal was done, although I ought to have done - but Mick said subsequently the pair of them cost around a million.

So what you want is players in their prime who are championship regulars

Will Hughes? Patrick Bamford? Kemar Roofe?

This type of list?

We have the core of a squad with plenty of experience at Championship level. The likes of Chambers, Skuse, Knudsen, Sears and so on.

I don't really see why people are taking such issue with the point that getting in some Championship experience is important - Gerken, Chambers, Berra, McGoldrick, Murphy, Skuse, Tabb, Anderson were all very experienced Championship players and good signings - and bar Chambers were all signed in Mick's first off season

Because Wolves released him as they had got relegated. What free agents are there about at the moment that you would like us to sign? Genuine question as I have no idea who's currently unattached
