Pleased about keeping him - hope the injury weakness issue can be resolved.

Yeah, I got the impression we’re not going to be risking him in Championship football matches anytime soon.

They are going to re-test to make sure the results were correct, seems like it was picked up in training thanks to the sports science team.

Nice to hear...although less so about the potential for injury to occur again.

On Huws, Hurst seemed to highlight the fact Huws' knee will probably be "puffy" sometimes...is that essentially confirming he's got an on-going injury issue there, a rumour that was going around for a while?

I think Hurst was just saying that having been out for a long time his body, specifically his knee, will swell in order to protect itself if it is put under the stress of playing competitive football on it regularly but Huws needs to understand that the swelling is likely and normal and not a sign that something else is wrong and therefore he shouldn’t let it hold him back. PH was talking about the mental side of having confidence in your body to deal with the rough and tumble of competitive football.

I was wondering about that. About 20 years ago the Boston Red Sox had a player who was always getting hamstring strains, etc. They discovered that one of his legs was slightly shorter than the other, and that he need special workouts to overcome that. I'm wondering if Andre doesn't have a similar problem.

Of course, this post is rash and unsupported by fact, but what the hey.

N.B. - Greg Oden, the erstwhile NBA player, had the same problem, and the injuries from which ultimately ended his career.

This is what the issue has been with Bishop, his hips are misaligned so lots of hamstring issues. A similar issue to Joe Cole and he has seen the same specialist about it.

Didn;t see this thread when I posted about this just now.

What Hurst says certainly sheds light on Dozzer's situation and explains why he hasn't featured. Makes all the bed wetting about not giving him game time rather silly; perhaps we ought to trust the manager rather than looking for negatives in everything.

Really pleased to hear of the impact all the sports science stuff is having on decisions. This sort of thing will hopefully halt our terrible injury reoccurance record of the last few seasons. Just another reason to be positive about the future.

And with Huws starting to get back in earnest - all good news.

Interesting - didn't know that about Bish.

How come that sort of info doesn't come out to general public? Would help I'm sure. (Or have I just missed something?)

I believe that Kieron Dyer also had similar issues that he only discovered towards the end of his playing career.

I think it was in his book, although i've not read it yet!

Dyer's glute wasn't firing on one side so because his arse muscle didn't work it was overworking and breaking his hamstring in simpleton's terms!

Yeah i knew he also had some sort of abnormality that was preventing him from staying fit!

I didn't realise that about Bishop though - certainly very interesting. Hopefully now they've got some sort of reasoning behind it, they'll have a plan in place to ensure that he stays fit now!

Wasn't there a YouTube podcast that he was on where he said that all the medical teams at his clubs could never quite pinpoint what his problem was, and then he went and saw a private physician recommended to him by a manager and he pinpointed the problem within one session?

I remember hearing that, it seems like with Dozzell, hopefully he's being held back as the sport science team have located an issue and want to carefully fix it over time, which is of course the right approach in today's game considering how many talented pro's down the years have lost their careers to reoccurring injuries.

You’d hope that’s the case. Although it sounds slightly concerning long term.

This is good news but it sounds like we will not be seeing him anytime soon and he will be doing a lot of "strength and conditioning".

The sports science stuff piqued my interest.

Would be interesting to know what kind of tests - Hurst comments suggest is not just related to a good old fashioned knee scan
