Clowns aren't jesters. Clowns come from the Graeco-Roman tradition of the 'rustic fool' as modified and enhanced by the Italian commedia dell'arte.
Jesters, whilst having roots in Roman and Ancient Egyptian culture, are a different beast entirely.
So that joke doesn't really work.
