You might be able to use a VPN to connect to JPN and log in to Netflix. I've never tried Japan, but the times I've logged in to say the Netherlands to see something not in my region, dutch subtitles have been available.
The only 2 current vpns that I know of that are successfully circumventing the Netflix vpn clampdown are ExpressVPN and NordVPN, but there will be a few others working as well.
They might have a free trial period to test if it works. You could also contact their webchat support and ask if their JPN servers work for Netflix as well. [Post edited 31 Aug 2018 13:56]

It may help her English better to have English subtitles, my sister-in-law has said she prefers English to Spanish subtitles when watching Netflix as she feels it helps her. |  |
