that must mean that everything that possibly can happen will eventually happen.
Does this therefore mean free will is an illusion?

don't know, but it does mean that we will eventually get promoted
And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

For the universe to be infinite then it must have taken an infinite amount of time to get that big? If a big bang event happened then it has to be finite in size surely?

The two things are entirely unconnected. And noone knows if the universe is infinite.
I think there is a good argument for free will being an illusion. The choices you make are dictated and driven by the way your brain is built and the environment around you. All of which stem from atoms which scattered during the early expansion of the universe etc.
The presence of those seeking the truth is infinitely to be preferred to the presence of those who think they've found it.

Clearly there's a certain amount of free will. Darth, above, was free to choose anything as his second example when he posted, "You're comparing apples with caravanning holidays."

his answer, and indeed any answer/action, would be a consequence of (a very complex) interaction between genetics, environment, and chance.

I'm not convinced that chance actually plays a part.
Its at least very arguable that whilst this is all subject to tiny variations and factors whcih are way beyond human capability to calcualte or predict, they may nevertheless have been theoretically predictable.
