his best ever.

Only downside is it is in Birmingham - pretty amazing burgerage though.

Fantastic service to boot.

What sort of bun would you use?

Brioche is the way to go.

Granary or cheese topped white roll.

Brioche is for mugs.

Now look here man.

Ignore everything I say in future if you so desire but listen to this.

Go to either

Hen and Chickens Pub(Constitution Hill)
New Soho Tavern pub

Both are Indian run pubs with unbelievable food. Soho Tavern is further away but a bit better - both great though.

Wherever you go make sure you get a mixed grill

Personally I prefer a brioche bun, nothing to do with brainwashing.

Nothing worse than an oversized bun either.

So, either your sugary eggy soaked brioche bun is the same size as your piddly little burger - or it's like a tiny useless decorative hat ontop of a large hamburger patty.

Either way, you are going wrong somewhere.

Best place in brum is Rooster House, hands down.

Honest burger turns out a decent burger, rosemary chips aren’t too shabby either.

With you on the granary all day.*

With Lucars on the sizing of the bun though. I'd rather have 2 burgers than just one huge mass of bread that's gonna bloat me out.

Not sure about the brioche though. I love brioche and have seen them advertised lods for burgers but it's never quite sat right.

It is there to be tried though, so I'll give it a shot sometime.

*But not the white. White bread is for small children. Horrible, pointless stuff.

When I was in Sheffield I was forced to have a burger with two donuts as the bun.

It wasn't quite right - although some people like it.

Yeah it's great. Standard etiquette is a mixed grill with added fish and a curry or two depending how many of you there are.

I was in there last week and it was as good as ever but I noticed they have hiked their prices up - having said that it was cheaper than the rubbish Chinese I had in Chinatown the previous evening.

Nice pint of beer in there as well and there is nice pub up the road called The Lord Clifton.

The other place (New Soho Tavern) is quite a modern pub but it's stuck on an old industrial estate with nothing around there - but it gets packed because the food is A1.

If you go to WBA you have The Vine which is very popular but I prefer The Sportsman Club, it's really rough and ready but great people - food not quite as good but still pretty much better than any so called Indian restaurant.

Let me know how you get on.

Donuts for a burger bun?

This wouldn't have been your student son or something?

Well you could call him a student if you were a liberal type of guy.

He did go to Sheffield for Uni but you know when some students drop out? Well he never actually dropped in. Unbeknown to me at the time he spent three years working in a pub, actually he ended up managing it.

But yes, it was with him that we had the donut thing, it was in a proper burger joint, actually the place in Birmingham also do one.

Depends.

Can't say my first vision is what I'd want for a burger.

I saw 'donut' and thought back to my childhood and those god-awful things you used to get on Felixstowe seafront that were coated in that sickly sweet pink crap and smothered in hundreds of thousands.

Imagine that with a greasy lump of burger, in the centre with just slightly burned onions and heaps of tomato ketchup...

Burgers are so simple. Should be quality meat and quality bread. Adding in donuts, brioche buns, loads of additions etc is over complicating it.

Trying to remember the name of a pub I went to where the burgers were amazing. And no it wasn't Wetherspoons you bastards.

I agree with your first sentence. At least where beef is concerned.

I do like to make a chilli pork burger that is possibly slightly over-tempered for some.

I am guessing you make your own burgers at home J.

I buy them occasionally from Suffolk Food Hall. I don't make them myself and I very rarely buy them from a supermarket. I'd rather go without than have a frozen burger.

Why do I get the feeling you'll be disappointed but not really surprised that I don't make them?

I am slightly disappointed given that you just offered the bloomin' recipe!

So it's not like you don't know.

Do it. You'll be chuffed with it.

Then you can make your own ketchup to go on them - but that's for next time.

And the buns too.

One step at a time.

But there you go, buy some decent mince - not too lean or they'll be dry - and go for it.

Easy.

I haven't but I should. Most things baked, (dry huh, so not really roasted?), taste a bit, well, dry.

I was looking forward to chips tonight with my chicken but after some of the fat shaming on my chicken thread I opted for baked mini potatoes instead. They were ok but it's not the same.

I have a box of tomatoes that weigh just over a stone. They are gradually ripening.

That's a lot of tomato sauce.

Edit: I do still have French beans growing, and loads still in the fridge and bags of the things in the freezer so yes, open to suggestions.
