Sounds ridiculous doesn't it. But that should be where we want to be in 12 months. There is a lot of similarities between us and Brentford and if we develop the club the right way its where we could be in 12/18 months under Hurst.
Ill start off by saying under Dean Smith (lower league manager) who went to Brentford from Walsall wasn't perceived a manager playing fluid football at Walsall like we saw last night but has developed it over the course of 18 months after settling on the formation of 4-2-3-1.
This time last year Brentford had 3 points to their name. They could of easily sacked Smith and gone for more experience but they stuck with and have developed a style of play right up there with the best in the league.
As well as that they're not big spenders, and often operate in similar markets as to where we are and should be looking. The total of there squad last night was 12m and considering we spent over 7m this year the gap looks quite significant in terms of ball quality and composure at the moment. BUT a lot of there players have come from the lower leagues or their academy: Bentley (GK) - Southend Konsa (CB) - Charlton Mepham (CB) - Academy Sawyers - (AM) - Walsall Watkins (LW) - Exeter.
I thought the quality and movement in possession from Brentford last night was superb and its where we as a club should be aspiring to be.
