He still looks very raw, and his touch does let him down but I was really excited by some of the flashes he showed on Tuesday night.

His pace is electric and he puts himself about well - we played to his strengths more with regards to giving him something to work with with slid balls into areas for him to chase down.

Just a shame for that last chance his legs turned to jelly as that would have lifted the roof of Portman Road as could sense when he went through the atmosphere was crescendoing.

The sort of player I imagine could score 8 goals in 8 games and then none in the next 8, think he'll be very streaky but there is definitely a player in their - was a really good header for the goal and he caused 2 good, and pretty quick young defenders a lot of problems

Agree with that, I think he's one of those players whose going to need patience, and will test poeple's patience at times.

I daresay he will have games where he will look like one of the groundsman got a game, but I think if the crowd support him and he gets game time he could be a quality player down the line for us.

Yeah agree I think he looked very promising.

It was also the best I'd seen Nolan - hopefully that's the start of him settling too.

I think he looked much better second half. There wasn't much understanding between him and Harrison and he was often making the wrong runs first half. His running was much more dangerous second half and he took his goal well. There's definitely potential there.

If Jackson is to be the main striker (who knows when Walters returns) then the relationship between him and Nolan who, you'd assume, would be doing most of the passing to/in front of him, is crucial.

Yeah agreed. Fancy picking up that bet that him and Harrison will score more than Waghorn and Garner this season? Loser pays to a charity of choice.

Agree about the runs. It's been a general problem this season, whoever is playing up front needs to drop deeper and offer an option to feet more. Our best chance at Hull came the only time Walters did this. Maupay was so, so good at this.

I don't think there is any chance they get to 26 league goals between them sadly.

Not too fussed about a charity bet, but how about just sticking £20 behind a bar of each others choosing for a few pints at the end of the season?

Nolan was great. Him and Ward were at the heart of our attacking play second half and both looked capable of making things happen.

Agreed. Also his chance at the end came from a central midfielder Downes pushing forward and sliding a ball through. We really haven't done that much this season, so more of that and we'll be able to see properly what he can do.

On a related note, I'd hoped to see more of this from Nolan but hopefully he's adjusted to the pace and will start getting himself into more dangerous positions to actually link up with the strikers and give them support.

Also, the Downes pass for his chance at the end came from inside Brentford's half. We can't keep chipping balls over the top from defence and expect his pace to be effective - it's too easy to defend.

I watched Nolan quite closely at hull and I think one of the issues was players didn't have the confidence to pass forwards in to tight spaces and trust each other. Where Nolan plays is always going to be like that but it isn't something we have done much over last few seasons (i.e. playing between line of midfield and attack)

More bravery on the ball and trust in their own and team mates abilities should see Nolan in position to hurt teams

Great shout, you're on. I think it'll be a slow burn but we'll start to see a lot more of Jackson contributing in the second half of the season.

26 goals to beat. Jackson has 2 so another 25 required.

Like to know how much ground he covered, one thing we did find out is that Harrison can't really play along side him, took his header really well and that should springboard his confidence, the chance at the end does worry me about him though, zero composure there, he'll get less chances in this League than what he's used to, he's certainly giving his all to prove himself...

Had been very worried about him until that half. First half and before seemed to be really lacking in ability & knowhow at this level. Second half was an immense improvement though and has shown what he is about a bit.

I keep hearing about this final chance he missed but am yet to see it in highlights (I stopped watching on the red button at half time).

Has anyone seen a highlights reel that includes it anywhere?

Not seen it myself apart from live but his final touch before his shot was just a bit heavy.

Agree with that.

Had he been able to do something with that chance at the end, not only would it have lifted the roof, due to the timing of it and the importance of it, but I think it really would've kickstarted both his and the club's season. Who knows, a few of the glimpses in the second half, against a very good Brentford, we could've already kickstarted it. Just need to get that first win clocked up - hopefully tomorrow.

If you do manage to see it then you'll see him trying once again to find top of net whereas in that position he needs to hit it hard and low as keepers can't get down quick enough. Hopefully he'll learn quickly as we can't waste too many chances and still hope to win.
On Harrison, I'm not sure what type of player he is. Could turn out to be expensive failure! Maybe his role needs to change otherwise he'll be on bench.

I’m sure I read that he’d said second half the team played to his strengths more, that header was absolute quality, league 2 player pulling off that!
It might not happen weekly but there’s definitely something about him, serious energy and pace, he’s going to be a great player for us

Totally agree on both.

It was a shame Edwards didn't really show when he came on. The key to getting our first win is getting all of our weapons to show in the same game. If we have Ward playing like he did on Tuesday, Nolan stepping up, Jackson showing his pace and Edwards on form, that's enough to trouble most teams in this division and will get us our first 3 points.

Of course, Hurst needs to play them together in a succession of games so they can start getting used to each other's games.

definitely need to play them as a unit and only then will the team start to get on winning streak.
Thought first half was very MMish with PH trying to pick a team for the opposition rather than the second when he trusted his own style and it nearly worked. He needs to be braver and while it'll take time I think we'll shock a few sides once we start finding the net more often.
Jackson should be trying to shoot more often and maybe he'll get lucky plus its good practice. His header was class so if wide men can hit more often with pacier and lower crosses he'll do well.

I can't remember the last striker we had with that much pace. Probably Darren Bent. He's frighteningly quick, I think he could realty grow to be a very good buy. Dare I say it it's a shame TC isn't here to work on him. I think he and Walters could form a nice partnership if JW can get fit. Bent / Kuqi esq.

His pace is scary, incredibly fast but I agree he is still raw. Think that was shown by the fact he placed that header so well but blasted the ball so wide in the 90th.

However there is definitely talent there, but could be worth the club hiring a specialised striker coach. Almost like Terry Conor.
