Easy I know in hindsight, but surely with Bolton down to 10 men so early, we should have gone with another striker at half time.

I was fully expecting Walters to come on at Half Time for Chalobah and go 442 - it was obvious that Bolton were going to sit back, with McGuinness up front on his own (good target man, but little pace).

However we wait until the 70th minute before trying a 2nd striker - baffling!!

Explain why?

We looked worse with 2 strikers on the pitch!

This theory of more strikers on the pitch means we will create more is just naive and simple

To be fair we only had two strikers on the pitch yesterday for about 9 minutes, so not sure how you say that looks worse.

Walters and Jackson v Norwich - worked for me, agree Harrison & Jackson didnt v Brentford - however more to do with the midfield three in my opinion.

The theory of having more players in the box, v 10 men means we create more questions for the Bolton defence to answer.

The only justification for playing nothing but long-ball,hoofing tactics is when a team is trying to break the stalemate against 10 men surely?

Get it wide. Get it in.

Playing it along the ground trying to thread passes through a very packed defence is harder to play than the more direct approach.

It is easier to hit a ball over a bus then through it.

Yesterday was neither one thing nor the other and if we had replicated that good spell against Norwich again yesterday then that elusive goal would have come.

The problem was that Walters was instrumental in that, and we know what happened there.

All teams in the Championship need a big boy up top to save a game, ours is unfortunately an ageing injury-prone player who now, unfortunately, seems unlikely to prove value for money.

Getting JW seemed a good move at the time but all the obvious question marks are being realised at far too early a stage in the plan.

A positive has quickly turned into another demoralising negative.

Perhaps Sears could do a job behind Jackson?

Maybe even a couple of strikers from the academy. Heaven forbid Hurst wanting to use one of them. Is Ben Morris on loan somewhere?

Having 2 strikers (obviously Hurst favours Jackson and Harrison) won't work until January. With Walters now injured we need Sears to step up to the mark and prove he is a striker.

Would have forced us to go more direct though so there is an argument for having an extra ball player in there to try and break them down.

To be honest, irrelevant of two strikers or not, I wish we'd gone more direct in the latter stages because Nolan was creating next to nothing.

Bolton going down to 10 men was actually the worst possible thing to happen. Why?

1) Town have historically never beaten 10 man teams.

2) All Bolton did was make an immediate sub and took off and attacker and put on a defender , and essentially shut up shop for the point. They did this very well, and their team is full of hardened Championship experienced players. Town by comparison , are now a team almost devoid of that. And it shows!

The big problem we have going forward is now no experienced striker. I doubt Walters will be back anytime soon. We probably will never see Huws pull on a Town shirt again, ( he was a bargain basement price for a reason. He’s always injured)!

We now have to now until Christmas, try and stay in touch with the pack, or we will almost certainly be looking at League One football next season, and for a very long time too.

Perhaps their Fullbacks would have to sit in v 2 strikers as opposed to one joining midfield ?

I noticed that they played 4-3-1-1 as opposed to 4-4-1 and it worked. Wheater was the perfect cb to bring on to replace the sent off fella too.

We had no answers

No chance Sears has had countless opportunities already.
