IMO, it's almost a waste of time trying to play nice football 08:22 - Oct 3 with 661 viewsgeg1992

on a budget like ours. We simply can't spend the millions like the top teams are to get the players capable of playing in such a way. Yes, the previous couple of seasons have been dreadful, but I'd rather see us finish mid table than try to play nice football and be where we are now!

It's a difficult one, as we either play nice football but struggle to compete, or play Mick style, finish mid-table, occasionally flirting with the play offs but be so so boring to watch.

Having said that, when Dozzell came on yesterday, he certainly seemed capable of playing the football most fans are after. Fantastic touch and vision when making a pass!

Poll: Who would you play in place of Burns on Sunday?

If professional footballers can’t control and pass the ball round on a surface which is tended to everyday then they shouldn’t be professional footballers.

I agree but the problem being that we don't really have the players to play in a more direct way now that we have let Garner etc go.

We saw last night what happens when we hit long balls to an isolated Jackson. I'd be happy for us to be more direct if it meant getting some wins but Hurst has left the squad so weak in terms of options and experience that we have little choice other than to try and play it on the deck.

What's funny is that Hurst isn't even known for playing nice football. His Shrewsbury team were one of the most pragmatic sides in L1 last year, rarely winning by more than single goal margin. It's not like we were getting the lower league Jurgen Klopp. The only reason people thought otherwise was because he was a young manager (therefore by default exciting) and they had never seen a Shrewsbury match or bothered to look into how he had them playing.

Jackson vs Flint & Ayala should of been a game of through balls and utilising Jakcson's pace. What we did was hoof it in panic. That's fine if we have Daryl Murpy or to some extent Joe Garner (he'd always buy a free kick). It didn't help last night that when Chambers did try to pass it was staright to Downing lol.

Dozzell did himself no harm last night. People make runs knowing he's looking for the pass.
