Away Day Etiquette... 20:09 - Oct 13 with 12445 viewsDavidDymondSuperfan

Doing my first away day soon and wondered how religiously people stuck to the seats on their tickets? Do people just work it out amongst themselves? standers to the back, sitters to the front, in a first come first served arrangement, or do stewards make you sit where your ticket says, no exceptions?

Sit in the seat you’ve been given & if after a few minutes of the game starting there is space elsewhere in the away section you’d rather sit/stand then move.

It’s not a difficult concept & I’m always amazed at how difficult adults find this.

It varies from ground to ground and match to match. Some insist on you staying in the seat on your ticket (altho, even then it's often possible to move for the second half, as long as it's not full), with others it's sit anywhere.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

At Swansea last week the stewards instructed us to "sit where you like!" Weren't interested in seat allocations.
Unless it's full up you can usually choose where you sit.

Unless it is full, which it won't be, sit/stand where you like.

You're far more likely to be told to sit down or move by an Ipswich fan than a steward. I'd wait until 2:59 on the concourse and then pick your spot unless it's a sell out when you should go to your allocated spot.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

If you want to stand, just go up towards the back few rows. If you want to sit, then go towards the front few rows. Sorted.

In my experience, if the game isn't in East Anglia or London, and as long as it's not some massive season-defining affair, the chances are it'll be unreserved on the day. Just check quickly with the first steward you see in the stand.

I've never encountered stewards making people sit where their ticket says. If you get some daft scenario where eight people are stood in front of four seats, then yes, they'll try and move people.

'Standers to the back, sitters to the front' usually works but doesn't necessarily apply - some games it'll just be everyone standing regardless.

I find some away days midlands, the north up our fans must have some sort of internal competition at how quiet we can be as an away set of fans.

London away days are the best.

Norwich on the concourse is absolutely electric at CArrow road, but maintain we’re better at singing etc at say palace Fulham etc

You have to do what Amy Downes tells you to do at northern aways.

As others have said, it’ll depend on the match. But, rule of thumb, if it’s going to be a sell out or close to you’re likely to have to sit in the allocated seat, if it isn’t you’ll be fine to move around.

Remember Rotherham away about 4 years ago. We took 1,700 and 1,600 sat down tutting for 90 minutes.

During the play off season?

Probably the most embarrassing away day I’ve ever been on.

Was there that day. Absolute silence.

1415 was such a season.

Watford and Fulham, superb.

Sheff Utd is a good northern one.

Which game will you be attending ?

Elland Road for your forthcoming Town clash will be an experience for you - only 6000 tickets left for sale for home support ........ not sure how many Town will be bringing ........ but I suspect you'll easily be accommodated to a seat of your choice to savour the atmosphere, leisurely drink and friendly banter as you watch an attacking display of pure football of the highest order from the home side.

yeah, but, northern games with like 300-700 are the better class of fan, aren't they?

Midland away days vary on time, previous results and location.

Sometime they are just as good, sometimes they are very poor. Northern away days I've done have usually fallen flat. But I'm sure its possible to get a good one.

It was terrible mate.

Highlight of the day for me and my mate was the car park we put the car - the car park controller was the most stereotypical northener of all time. Had us in bits. Nice KFC from memory.....

Connor Sammon was just always going to score that day.....

While other sets of fans would really get behind their team struggling away from home 1-0 / 2-0 down - did ours? No. Just sat in silence tutting / expecting us to walk the game.

Really embarrassing day to be a town fan.

Have to agree with yourself and R_I_G. Probably the worst away game I've been too for atmosphere (from our set of fans). Just awful.
