Some very sad news 20:43 - Oct 13 with 31545 viewsCustardCream

Hello everyone, unfortunately my dad who regularly posted on these forums under the name JoeSoap passed away this morning surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer. He spent many happy hours on the site and I'm sure many of you will have already been aware of his condition.

So sorry to hear this. As so many others have said your Dad brightened up this board with his wit and cheerful stoicism in the face of adversity. He is an example to us all of how life should be lived. I often felt humble (In a good way!) after reading his posts.

Best wishes to you and all the family and friends.

The world is a lesser place without JoeSoap.

Sitting on the steps to a house made of straw, chatting to him, he left some very wise words in my ear.

An inspirational and incredible man, it was an honour and pleasure to have met you JoeSoap.

My condolences to you and your family CustardCream.

Such sad news.

I like others only met "Joe"once at EdwardStones' Gloucester BBQ a couple of years back with his daughter and partner. A lovely man indeed.

Really sorry to hear this. RIP Joe.

Oh no, I'm so sorry. This is incredibly sad.

Like most others, I only knew Joe from his posts. Yet these offered so much. A truly inspirational human being shone through every one.

Joe found a unique tone for his posts. His authenticity and honesty was sometimes haunting, always admirable, and even occasionally oddly comforting. He refused to play the victim, but equally he refused to be cast as Brave Faced Joe the SuperHero. Not once do I remember him pretending that he was okay with the terrible hand he had been dealt. Not once did he ever give the impression that he wasn't mad as hell about it.

And yet throughout his battle, he embodied greater reserves of strength, humility, grace and composure than most of us will ever have to draw upon. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would think, "This is exactly how to do it, but if I'm ever in the same position, I just don't know that I will be able to handle it as well as Joe."

And let's not forget his body of work. He was a top-notch poster and I'm pretty sure he knew a decent tune when he heard one, too. He will be greatly missed. Condolences to his family, friends and the hundreds of fellow TWTDers whose forum sessions he illuminated.

RIP Joe.

I am so sorry to hear that. He came across as a lovely bloke who could always see the funny side of his illness. I'm sure that helped many others on here.

My thoughts, and I'm sure those of the rest of us, are with you and the rest of Joe's family.

I am so very sorry and saddened to read this news. Mullet used the words "dignity and wit" to describe how your dad handled his condition and these are so very apt. The "happy hours" you describe were shared with him just as happily by so many of us, and I will miss him greatly.

That's a fair pile of assumptions you've jumped to there.....

I am so sorry to hear that.

Joe was an incredible poster always upbeat about his illness and finding it amusing when he was unable to do something. I am sure he helped a lot of people going through the same illness. I loved reading his posts.

My sincere condolences go to you and his family.

RIP Joe.
