We have a couple of French ones too, but understand that was down to our previous Head of Recruitment so may not be expecting any more - but we've traditionally ploughed the Irish market.....may not be able to any more.

In the case of Adam McDonnell he wasn't allowed to play until he was 18 anyway due to "FIFA red tape issues" so not much difference really

My hobbies include being quiet during trips, clapping with songs, and diabetes.

Ireland was the old Ipswich. It’s all about the Welsh now.

Good!
I don't think it's right these kids have to move country at such a young age!

I think the Irish lads are a little different as they don't have the professional league there and they are still from the British Isles....

It's going to be interesting how this pans out. One of the literally hundreds of things yet to be resolved (although far from the most important). We've even got a book on all we don't know, but need to know about Brexit - https://t.co/lp90ejxrcY

I'm not sure we'll be any worse off. It's not really been a rich vein of talent for us.

Tommy Oar springs to mind as well ... although he had spent the best part of 5 years in Holland before joining us.

True. We haven't had an Irish player come through the academy and make a meaningful contribution to the first team since Garvan and Clarke over 10 years ago though so still won't be any loss.

That said I don't believe there will be much restriction on irish players playing in England under 18 anyway

I know a guy whose son has gone to a Premier Club for trials and has now been offered a contract - he’s nearly 16. He was telling me the League of Ireland clubs are now holding out for more money and that usually means the players are heading over late teens.

There are some decent young players but the League and FAI are a mess.

Carson was Northern Irish so would still be able to sign. Supple and Garvan are the two from the Republic who made most impact.

They learn quickly it’s not all it’s cracked up to be.

Shane Supple was another who doesn’t seem to regret returning.

It’s up to the FAI to provide structure. They’re a shambles however.
