So whoever Evans had appointed we’d be bottom of the league?

Nope, PH took the job and would have known all the constraints. He had money to spend, admittedly from the sake of some of MM’s better buys. In the end though PH knew exactly what he was getting into.

Evans is clearly at fault for the structural decline of the club but he hasn’t played 27 players before the end of October.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

Its mostly on Evans, but Hurst has shown he has no Plan B either - he could have chosen to keep Webster and Waghorn; but he replaced them with questionable players- The biggest waste of funds was on Jackson, I never liked the transfer when it was a mere rumour, and I think it underlines the lack of understanding Hurst had for this league.

I don't like bashing Hurst, I cant tell you how massively I wanted him to succeed, but he isn't - and I don't think he can, not here.

What about the summer transfer dealings, who does that lay blame to. Because really it’s the lack of quality on the pitch lead by the lack of quality in the dugout that is seeing us at the bottom of the league. Not sure how Evans has anything to do with it right now.

The lack of quality is due to the lack of funds from Evans.

Clubs promoted from the league below are spending more than Ipswich, that sums us up.

I don't think Evans made PH sign a load of rubbish lower league players.

Maybe if he didn't let him spend a lot of money then yes, but PH has spent a lot of money really.

How much were Nsiala and Nolan. Wasn't it spoken about £2+million. Wasn't Jackson about £1.5m+ and Edwards £750k? and Harrison £1m?

Lets call it £5m. That is quite a bit of money, and all bar Edwards have been largely disappointing and look like this league is a step too high for them.

He spent about £5m on transfer fees. Not at the levels of several clubs but not a pittance by any stretch.

200,000- Martyn Waghorn
700,000 - Joe Garner
700,000 - Gwion Edwards
10,000 - Tyrone Mings
Free - David McGoldrick
Free - Daryl Murphy
Bartosz Bialkowski - Free
Adam Webster - 750,000

Let’s not pretend there is no quality out the for good prices, we don’t overpay for players, we never will do. Do your due diligence and you can pick up very good players.

But 1.2 million for Nolan and 1.6m for Jackson sums up Paul Hursts transfer dealings.

It is a pittance in todays market though. We get excited spending a total of 5 million (generated from sales), yet other clubs are spending more than that on a single player that can make a difference at this level.

You may get the odd gem, but that only leads to the gem being sold for a pittance a year or two later, and only a fraction of that sale gets reinvested into the team hoping to find another gem.

Plus other clubs are buying to add to their squad, we are always buying or loaning to replace numerous outgoing players year on year.

With the money from the Waghorn sale alone, Mick McCarthy would have had us comfortable, possibly even in with a vague shout at competing with the replacements he bought. And he'd have probably kept Webster and Garner, so we weren't completely lacking in Championship experience in key areas.

It's the sort of money that would have kept up comfortable, possibly even vaguely competitive under Mick.
