"Lifting the fans" or "loving the club" are almost irrelevant. The only way to do the former is by gaining success on the pitch. Without that, the hollow reverence for, say, a club legend will evaporate as quickly as it did for Magilton when things went sour. I'd rather have someone who can understand the club, its situation and what it needs now than someone with pure sentimental affection for the place who doesn't. | |
