Thought that you might want an opposition view about yesterday and your situation. Firstly I should declare that I have always had an affinity for Ipswich and have gone to most of the Millwall games played both home and away with two very good Ipswich friends. Over the years our record against you has been particularly bad and so yesterday’s result was something surprising even though you are doing so badly at the moment.

I don’t need to rub salt in the wound by telling you how bad you were yesterday as you obviously know that. The issue I want to talk about is whether you have enough to avoid relegation. On yesterday’s showing its hard to see primarily because you seem to lack real leadership and identity on the pitch. Getting Lambert in was a very good move because he has a decent record and has the time to try and motivate clearly dispirited players. 31 games is plenty to do that. It was always going to be a really difficult ask for you when you sold four really good players in the summer and the recruitment of their replacements was so poor (apart from Edwards who I really rate -and why did he only get 10 minutes or so yesterday?)

The main thing is to get to January without losing touch and for that to happen you need some good results and fast. The squad has some reasonable players but Lambert’s role will be pivotal. You also desperately need some better strikers and even more important some sensible tactics. Punting the ball forward to Sears was always going to be pretty hopeless against our two towering central defenders Cooper and Hutchinson.

Nothing particularly original i accept in what I have said but i wish you all the best for the season as long as you don’t stay up at our expense. I really hope that I can come to PR next season as well as this to see you play the brand of football that has served you very well over the years.

Cheers for posting.

I'm sure Lambert will get us better organised and install some much needed confidence in the team but we have a glaring lack of any presence up front - the contrast with Gregory being an utter pain to our defenders and taking his only two chances well was stark. I think we sacked Hurst a month too late, he was clearly failing but confidence and belief were stronger a month ago and we've started to get a bit adrift.

If Lambert can keep us in touch, even if still in the bottom three, until January then we have a chance but we would definitely all take fourth from bottom this season (having typed that I see you said the same thing). He's certainly right at the top of a list of managers for this situation and I'm looking forward to seeing us tighten up and develop an identity at least.

Thanks for the post. Always enjoy playing both Millwall and Leeds as the passionate fans of both clubs always adds a good bit of spice to the game.

Your point about “...Punting the ball forward to Sears...” is a mystery. We did it against Leeds and QPR and it doesn’t work. Why a man with Klugs experience would do that is baffling

Perhaps that's all the players are capable of....punting it up to Sears... cause i can't imagine that was in Klugs game plan!

I don't think he had much choice as that was one of the many failings of PH and MM before him. At the end of the game when Edwards came on there was more play on the deck but too late!
Hope PL can sort that out as our squad would be better suited to passing and moving as opposed to hoofing and running. Hurst's idea about Jackson just play to his pace and while he is quick, it's very bad tactic as once he or even Freddie get the ball there's no teammate around. Front 3 need to work together with support from midfielders , so simple but beyond last two managers. Would also help if keepers passed ball out and not hoofed it giving it away mostly.
