How can Keane possibly worse than Paul Jewell? Let alone Paul Hurst?

This was discussed the other day wasn’t it. Wasn’t it generally agreed that Hurst was the worst, Keane the least likeable? So I suppose I’ve jumped the gun there, but I just feel that Keane was anti-Ipswich. He was such a bad fit, alienated people in the club who’d been here years, played crap football, whinged a lot. He was just wrong for us. Other options are available though. PJ was rubbish too of course, but much less of a tosser!

Being a tosser has no bearing on the quality of their management though, it's a bizarre logic that sees people rave about Matt Holland as a captain when really he was just a great a player and the Dale Winton of Ipswich captains.

Keane had far more financial support and most of his dimise you couldn't even push some of the blame on others. His disaster was 100% his own doing.

He was a rookie comparatively and produced better football more consistently, I'm not sure Bullard, Chopra, Andrews et al. were significantly cheaper to negate that.

I am not sure Sir Bobby ranks above Sir Alf. Sir Bobby did it for longer with us but to take us to the top division and win it at the first attempt that was truly remarkable. To go on and lead England to the World Cup show what a remarkable manager he was. Perhaps he and Sir Bobby should be 1=. Which then opens up the possibility that Hurst, Keane and Jewell are 15= (maybe Milburn was too but I don't know enough about his reign except he was considered "too soft").

Milburn - great centre forward by the way - virtually single-handed started the famous Ipswich youth system. That was part of his managerial role so for me that puts him above H, K and J.

What does him being a rookie have to do with it? He wasn’t managing in the young coaches league, and I’d be astonished if Keane wasn’t considerably better paid. Keane also started from a much better position than Jewell. Their records are remarkably similar but Keane was worse, as fortunately for Keane, he didn’t have to take over from Keane. The reason that I put SBR ahead of SAR is because he left us in a far better state than Sir Alf did on leaving for the England job. There is certainly a case for them being first equal.
