Minute’s applause 19:54 - Oct 31 with 1909 viewsThe_Snake

Surely, given the gravity of the Leicester accident a minute’s silence would be more respectful? I’m guessing that ITFC will be incorporating rememberance day on Saturday so probably will be. Just seems very disrespectful standing there clapping away as they were at Stamford Bridge. Perhaps I’m just getting old.

Agree totally.

Should always be a minutes silence anyway.

I believe the EFL and Premier League have announced a minute silence for everyone over the weekend.

Everything is dumbed down these days. Asking people to be silent for a whole minute is asking too much.

Truly impaired.

Well maybe that’s another example of where we’re going wrong in the world. Pander to the idiots.

So... a minute's applause on the home game before Remembrance Sunday?

Classy.

I was referring to Chelsea’s minutes applause tonight, apologies if not clear.

I think the minute's applause was introduced partly from fear of people not respecting a silence. It is also seen as recognising what someone achieved ahead of mourning their loss.

I would say in this instance and especially it happening alongside Remembrance, a silence would be more appropriate. I hope it is made a lot more clear than it appeared to have been at Millwall.

Agree with you entirely.

Applauding someone's life perhaps in commemoration if they've passed away at some ripe old age, for example, is quite different from a situation like this.

You'd like to think most people would understand the gravity and manage to stay silent for a minute or 2.

I'm sure they weren't trying to be disrespectful Facters, and the whole thing was intended to be quite the opposite.

We just have different ideas how that respect should be shown.

Harding was young wasn't he. I just looked it up after seeing your post and I'd forgotten until you said if I'm honest.

I quite agree with you - silence for any sort of remembrance, particularly of something tragic.

I tend to stand in silence even when being asked to applaud.

I think it's just wrong.

I think a minutes silence in circumstances regarding loss of life is far more meaningful than applause anyway but applause seems to be becoming the modern thing.
As with a lot of modern things they are not necessarily right.
