A win today and the subsequent task will then be to beat Reading by 2 points over the course of the remaining 29 games. COYB.

But what if Reading finish 3 points from safety?

Are you saying I have focused too much on Reading and not enough on arithmetic?

It is where we are in May that counts. Fortunately that gives Lambert time. The mess we have been in for some weeks now has exhibited itself in the table as it inevitably would do.

3 points today is important but there is a long way to go. Even were we to lose, all is not lost yet but it would make the task that much more.

The key is to remember we're in the situation of some people being chased by a tiger. We don't have to run faster than the tiger, just faster than the three people who will satisfy his hunger.

A win today and that's 4 points from the last two games and the gap is closed between us and our closest relegation rivals. That will do for me!!

It is unfortunate the rest have such a head start. However, at least there is a good distance for the tiger to cover before it catches any of us.

If we need to run faster, then those double gym sessions will help.

I read that as you want us to beat Reading every game.

We only play them twice!

Yeah but at least there's a few fatties ahead of us in Rotherham, Reading, Bolton and Hull so we stand a good chance of catching them

Only if we can shift a little timber ourselves. It was a heavy summer.

I’m sensing a January crash diet might be on the cards.

Unfortunately in footballing terms, we are even more unfit than them. We need to gain fitness fast.

That’s ignoring that at the moment we’re the fattest and least fit of all. Our only hope is that our new weight loss diet and gym membership will be more effective than the ones the other fatties are on. I’m not sure that slimming world is really much better than weight watchers.

We have a cunning plan to go on Atkins the week before the season ends and drop 7 pounds of water weight.
