What a f*cking disaster Brexit is looking to be 23:18 - Nov 15 with 7313 viewsmos

For the young folk, like myself, whom are intending to become employed following university, the current situation looks a bit dull.

Following a no deal/hard Brexit which is becoming a more imminent possibility, we could end up with an economy built like a sh1thouse and the supposed end to this ‘austerity’ will be back.

Furthermore, not only the possible decrease in trade, but also trying to fill the sectors of work where immigrants make up a large percentage of that workforce. The NHS for example, 12.7% of its UK workforce are non British. Although Brexit doesn’t mean we will lose those 12.7% of NHS staff, it does reflect how immigration is crucial to the success of Britain, with it being an ageing population.

Not only that, I was wanting to go into the field of ‘International Finance/Law’, which is now looking a more difficult possibility. Not impossible, but has been made harder by statistically the older age groups within Britain.

Although I’m certainly one to oppose Nationalism/Patriotism, I’m struggling to see the ‘Great’ in Great Britain anymore.

You weren't 18 at the time? sorry, didn't realise, you appear more mature than your years!

Your 2 & 3 year-older near-contemporaries could have done much better tho (and/or, arguably, the politicians should have done a better job of persuading them).

It's fairly clear there is now a majority to stay in the EU. May keeps talking about the largest turnout ever. Why not add some clauses to the next vote? At least the same number of people must vote and remain must get at least 55% of the vote to overturn the last referendum. That way leave goes in with 'champion's advantage' but remain will almost certainly win with both of those stipulations met.

If we get the chance to reverse our votes, many of us will take it.

Truly impaired.

What you need to remeber is this apocalypse of business leaving, unable to trade, parts stuck at the borders was the same apocalypse business leaders predicted if we didn't vote to give up the £ and move to using the €.
As we know that apocalypse never happened, business leaders then we're either complete useless morons or they lied, take your pick.

A hard Brexit isn't going to lead to the end of the world just like keeping the £ didn't

No, but it will lead(and, indeed, been) to a smaller, poor, nastier, more insular one.

Certainly not impossible to get into finance/law bud. Very competitive as often you need a placement or training contract sponsored by a firm. Go for it, most stuff that's worth it in life is tough and competitive.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

That is spot on I voted to remain we lost if we go out with no deal the world goes on it won’t be Armageddon and in the long term will make no difference some short term pain possibly.

The fear mongering again based on no facts at all just those who think they can predict the future is very disappointing.

We are the 5th largest economy in the world we have a huge trade deficit with the EU the banks are not leaving London in their droves as predicted if we voted to leave this scare mongering makes us all feel worse and this forum is full of it.

Business is run by sensible bright people in the main and they manage their businesses through good bad and indifferent times.

I am considerably more concerned with the Uk retail sectors then a no deal Brexit.

Any recommendations on how to get a life in a country hide bound by EU regulations and yet having little of the EU's protectionist benefits? I don't need restaurant recommendations, I was in Geneva, Sion and Zurich a couple of years ago.

If that's the industry you're looking to go into then the May deal only has equivalence based clauses for finance and law. Essentially that means we would be treated like Singapore who can claim their regulations are equivalent but it would mean only 25% of the current EU based transactions could be completed in the UK.

US aren't particularly happy about this because it means US companies have to change all their systems and processes so have waded in saying the EU will be banned from using US infrastructure if they push ahead and "penalise" the UK in this way. US might actually do us a favour in this regard as the EU are likely to listen to them on this point if negotiations continue - at the moment though it seems they haven't.

The deal is rubbish on virtually every level. May knows this, the public knows this and the EU knows this. It's designed this way to push the UK into two options - no deal or remain. Tusk's comments yesterday make this clear (ie. no brexit still best for everyone) and it could work. The UK could be pushed into remain which I would like but it does pose some difficult questions about the nature of the EU. If you can't really viably leave then why not go full federal like the Germans and French want?

Norway is part of EFTA, the EEA and Schengen. None of which would automatically be the case in a no-deal Brexit.

Thinking on the OP.

I voted leave for one reason. The get out of an every closer union led by France and Germany.

It's in their interest to balls it up for us. That is their negotiating position.

I'd agree that May has undermined the manifesto promise and both Brexit ministers. Both were window dressing and puppets to her own man 'Olly Robins'.

There will be uncertainty but business finds solutions very quickly so I would not worry.
Think about the recent financial crash. The markets recovered from what looked like Armageddon, within a few months.

I like your choice of Int Finance. Providing you do your CFA/ACCA you'll never be poor.

Uncertainty in the markets and business causes contingency planning. What we are hearing are the worst cases which, in the whole won't happen.

Head down, get a First and you'll be fine.

Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me. Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing. Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial. Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid. Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.

Figures not your strong point.
