Sounded like it was close, and it's been weeks so you'd assume fairly serious.

And whist you're at it, raise some money to buy a few community AED defibrillators. They are literally life-savers.

Hoddle's out of hospital on 15:28 - Nov 23 with 1565 views | bluejake78 | My elderly mother had a triple bypass back in February. She was lucky because she was aware of the symptoms and phoned me and my sister at 8am after she had a rough nights sleep and pains.By 10am we got her to her Dr who immediately referred her to the Hospital to see a cardiac specialist. A few pills sorted her until she had her op at Papworth. Hoddle will have a long recovery period. Against her wishes we got her booked into a (paid) convalescence home where they were brilliant and gave her reassurance and support. NHS were brilliant as well. After 50 it's worth having a regular MOT.

Thats what saved him the defib. Defibrillation within 3—5 min of collapse can produce survival rates as high as 50—70%. This can be achieved through public access defibrillation, when a bystander uses a nearby AED to deliver the first shock. Each minute of delay to defibrillation reduces the probability of survival to hospital discharge by 10%. They are pushing for CPR to included in the curriculum, they should add defib use also.

*but only if the cardiac event is one which is 'shockable'. Your non-sockable rhythms such as asystole and PEA you need adreanaline. In both instances prompt, effective CPR to buy you time for that is paramount.

It always amazes me that so many people have no idea what to do if a loved one has a cardiac arrest. It takes an an hour to learn and could save a family member's life. Ignorance is no excuse, cpr is simple.

I know we still use it, but is there any evidence that adrenaline is effective? Yes, you might get a pulse back but it doesn't last, in my experience.

You don't actually need any training to use a heart starter. Ok, maybe 5 minutes to show how to apply the pads and switch the machine on.

Even then, the pads are very clearly labelled and the machine will talk to you to tell you what it wants.

It's actually a heart stopper. Resetting the abnormal rhythm to start again.

The heart has stopped pumping. The machine can sometimes restart it. [Post edited 23 Nov 2018 19:03]

Hoddle's out of hospital on 18:58 - Nov 23 with 1391 views | RIPbobby | Really happy about this. I still think Hoddle is right up there with one of the best individual displays I have seen at Portman Road. Back in the early 80's after he come back from a cruciate ligament injury he was just brilliant. From the vague memory he scored 1 and set the other 2 up for them. For the youngsters who read this. Back then when you had a cruciate ligament injury it always ended your career. He was one of the first to have new treatment and he came back as good as before.
