A good article from the journalist at the eye of the storm: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/stories-46348167

It's rather tragic and deplorable the abuse and threats they've both endured but it seems that they've made the best of it and some good may come from it.

They were face-to-face on The One Show tonight.

Can't say I like Sitwell - supercilious minor aristocrat. William Ronald Sacheverell Sitwell, heir presumptive to the Sitwell baronetcy.

He was an idiot and his email wasn't funny. I think an apology should have been enough.

She makes a point about millions of animals being hung upside down and killed. I think it's really important where your meat comes from. I know certain people think it's irrelevant and that's fine, i'm not arguing with them, but to me there is a world of difference between a free range chicken killed on a farm before it even knows what it happening and a factory farmed chicken stunned, hung upside down on a conveyor belt and killed after being in distress.

I admire her saying it can be an informed choice to eat meat.

Social media is a cesspit.

Truly impaired.

She didn't want him to lose his job, she says she's sorry that happened. It's a good, balanced article. William Sitwell is a knob but I kind of like him despite that.

The last line "We've made progress, as a species." seems a tiny bit hyperbolic

I thought the same but I think she means two people with different ideas coming together and respecting each other's opinion which is quite rare these days.

Doesn't sit well with you then.

I've never really noticed him much. Obviously I know his face and recognise him from various TV cookery stuff, but he's always seemed so bland and easily forgettable.

Maybe he felt he needed a bit of publicity.

Indeed and if she'd said that, then I wouldn't have a problem. Instead it was the last line that stuck!

She said exactly what J2 said (but more eloquently) in the sentence immediately preceding it. Taking one sentence out of context isn't a great way to critique the article.

I find it interesting she, like most vegans I know, cites the same type of abuse and "LOL BANTZ".

I don't think there is a "right" way to promote veganism in all honesty, no matter how you make the point someone will get the arse.

I think being deliberately provocative or condescending probably greatly increases the chances of people getting the arse.
