At the risk of over sharing... 21:13 - Nov 30 with 2001 viewsMattinLondon

My little two month boy was admitted into hospital last weekend. His condition so worried the doctors that a specialised ambulance was made ready to transfer him over to Great Ormand Streets ITU. It was a truly scary and really worryingly experience especially as we were told that the cardiac unit at GOSH were discussing the ‘case’.

Fortunately the little boys condition improved and the army of doctors who were all over him were stood down and gradually over the next few days things got back to normal. I don’t mind admitting that I found it hard not to cry when we were told that we were to be discharged today.

The point of this post is to highlight just how great the care we received was. Absolutely wonderful - all the docs and nurses and the admin staff were exceptional. I know it’s easy to moan about how slow the NHS can be and I know that it isn’t perfect. But the fact that it exists honours the country.

Finally if you’re having a silly argument with a loved one or a friend - for God’s sake makeup. Life is far far too short.

An experience this week reaffirmed what I know. People within the NHS want to do a good job and often do great things. Care, support and advice I received this week from GP to hospital can't be faulted.

Glad you and your little one are all well.

I always look out for great Ormand street. My parents unfortunately had the sad experience of having my older brother there. I never got to meet him as he unfortunately didn’t make it, but they had an absolutely incredible level of care and ended up having my older brother, myself and my younger sister who are all healthy and are all due to turn 30 in the next two years (my brother is about to have his first child at 32, and I turn 30 in April). I’m glad you had the same and that everything seems to be working out for you, stay positive and I hope it works out. I always support great ormand street whenever I can

I had Left Temporal Resection surgery (removed the left temporal lobe which was too small causing short circuits (seizures)) at GOSH back in 1996.

If I took my medication I had 2-3 minor epileptic seizures a day causing me to shake, runaround randomly and blackout (all I remember is waking up in the school medical room). and if I forgot my medication I would have a major seizure meaning I had to go to hospital.

Been seizure free and off medication since the surgery. So I am grateful for the hard work of the nurses and doctors during my epileptic childhood.

Fantastic for you and your little boy. Beautiful stuff!

I hope that this level of medical support is always seen as a basic human right in this country.

I had a similar experience two weeks ago, which started with being directed to a relatives room outside resus at MRI to wait for a doctor to tell us what had happened. It was a long and very scary two hour wait to find out all was OK. Despite being constantly starved of resources our NHS staff are truly wonderful.

Thanks for sharing. So pleased he’s ok. The NHS is not perfect but we’re lucky to have it. Wish you & your family all the very best.
