And Murphy, McGoldrick, Berra, Waghorn, Lawrence.... Even now they would walk into the side over any of Hurst’s signings.

But how much were they on compared with what the unproven newcomers will be getting?

Not convinced Hurst wouldn't have bought better, at least in some cases, if all the funds had been devolved to him.

And many of the old guard, Spence, Ward, hardly covered themselves with glory today while Pennington was at least reasonable.

Is the difference between Mick’s time here compared to Hurst and Lambert is that he had a component Bart in goal rather than the version who’s turned up this season?
