Why Bart 09:39 - Dec 3 with 1647 viewsWhymarkmariner

Why is it that so many posts blame Bart. He makes one mistake and it's his fault for the defeat. O.K. it doesn't help, but what about the fullbacks, the centre backs and the forward line, Freddie apart, who can't hit a barn door and probably miss a hat trick. At least we know with Bart that there's a great keeper in their, but some others have never proved themselves. As for the season if we are to do anything Stoke has to be the starting point, we definitely cannot wait another two or three games without any points.

It's not just one mistake, he's probably cost us more goals this season than the last few combined, and he is consistently making errors. He is a better keeper than that but at some point you have to take him out of the firing line, especially when Gerken is more than capable of a keeper, regardless of how many feel about him.

It's been the consistency of the mistakes and how costly they have been that's the problem. Its not just one but one or 2 per game for almost every game he has started which is a shocking statistic. Someone pointed out that over 50 percent of shots on target have been goals against him which is diabolical for a keeper on any league let alone the championship.

Part of the territory of being a keeper, one off mistakes / bad games will be forgiven quickly (based on past performances) but when it's becoming a running theme then it's a big problem.

When he rediscovers his form, and starts winning games for us, the love will return fairly quickly I would imagine

Because when a 'keeper makes a mistake, it can lose the match. He is the one person on the pitch for whom that is true (even defenders have the goalie as a backstop).

There is less he can get away with, higher standards are required. That's why it's a specialist role with specifically trained players.

Also one of the more mentally taxing roles. He must go from a distant spectator to dynamic, pinpoint action within seconds, have an instinctive grasp of the movement of the ball through the air, an eye which can instantly pick up everyone's position and any possibilities of deflection, always keep a cool head and be able to instruct his defenders.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

By the standards that Bart set over the last two and a half seasons he is having a poor season,in fact by any goalkeeper's standards he is having a poor season.
He was at fault for the first goal we conceded this season and has been at fault for several more since and it has almost got to the stage that it is a surprise if he does NOT make a mistake.

Exactly. He is so low on confidence and the mistakes will just keep coming, need to get him out of the spotlight. How on earth he managed to get the ball to Grabban for the first goal on saturday, i'll never know.

He is a great keeper and clearly the (slightly) better of the two keepers we have, but Gerken is more than capable and we need him right now.

Bart would have been forgiven 'one mistake'. Its one mistake (at least) a game at the moment though ...

Both games we were in the game and that is just a kick in the teeth. We are lucky to score 1 goal so giving goals away doesn’t help.

“ just one mistake” ...,,, you haven’t really been watching Town this season have?

To date I make it “ one mistake” in at least 8 matches that have directly cost us a goal , and the match. He was responsible for goals in SIX of the consecutive games at the start of the season.

Why don’t some you just acknowledge Bart is most definitely fallible and certainly not some bloody messhiah he’s made out to be!
