A pub where cash is useless 21:43 - Dec 11 with 11337 viewsgtsb

No thanks. This is going to be the norm soon isn't it. We have one in Sudbury too.

A disturbing trend. If there's no cash, society is totally under control and surveillance.

Edit: sorry for the repetition- hadn't read the second page when I posted this.

My ex housemate got a tax rebate in the form of a cheque which sat in our house for weeks.

They take it away through electronic means, can't they send it back similarly?

You have the option to have the said rebate paid straight into the bank if you so wish.

No need to thank me for the Information.

A cash only pub would be far more of a problem. If people forget their wallet, most have a card in their phone case or some form of phone payment.

I carry cards and a tenner tucked into my phone case. It very rarely gets used.

I agree with that - especially now out of town branches are closing all the time.

We have to go from Purdis Farm either into town or to Bramford Road to bank a cheque - will take well over an hour to do so. Used to have branches on Derby Road, Nacton Road, Woodbridge Road East, Felixstowe Road

Many banks now have apps which allow you to pay cheques in simply by taking a picture.

Because it excludes the poor and homeless who only have cash

Anyone who can afford to drink in a pub will have a bank account ...

was in a bar in Leeds where I was laughed at twice for (a) asking if they had any cask beer and (b) trying to pay with a tenner

Has anyone mentioned your last sentence to Marcus Evans? Needed card machines at PR for years.

There are card machines at PR, I paid for my bovril on Saturday using one.

Simple, if you don't like the landlord you don't go in

In China beggars get you to transfer money to them by WeChat.

It's an incredibly convenient app and opens up a lot of possibilities for payments and other apps.

Not sure why something like that hasn't really taken off in the UK - perhaps because we are more wedded to the traditional cash/card transactions?

what happens when the machines go down as they invariably do from time to time?

This is why i'm always polite to my Alexa. One day they will rise up and she'll put in a good word for me.
