But what about Corbyn eh? 21:53 - Dec 12 with 20517 viewsDubtractor

Remarkable that today (on here and elsewhere in the interwebz), given the omni shambles that is the conservative party, there a still lots of people who's best response seems to be more or less "but Corbyn?".

A bit desperate isn't it?

It would be useful to have a better Labour leader at the moment though wouldn’t it?

May's parting shot at the end of every PMQs now is to say a Labour government would bring economic catastrophe to this country. Unironically said by the party that brought about Brexit. Lol.

Perhaps, but it is pretty fooking irrelevant today!

I suspect they are waiting for the deal to come to parliament so it can be voted down and then they will call the no confidence vote, maximum ammunition

But strike while the irons hot, good chance some of those 117 will be so incensed they will vote against the Gov.

Leave it and she might actually come back with enough of a change in the deal to get victory in the vote and then the chance has gone.

And lose it? That wouldn't be cunning. The Tories would be united; and the petty parties would steer Labour towards a 'people's vote' and the likes of Anna Soubry (which is ultimately their game).

Labour needs to look at the bigger picture: how to eliminate this disgrace of a government and save the remaining public services, from child services to the NHS.

These days I can't see any party winning an overall majority, a GE now would only ensure a hung parliament and more uncertainty.
Best result would probably be a coalition but only if two or more parties can swallow their pride to avoid a minority government which would be a disaster imo.

and with the deal voted down and the no confidence in the government lost, the only option for Labour will be to push for a second "peoples" vote on EU membership.

But it's no good Labour waiting for the next GE in 2022, Corbyn will be too old by then, he's already struggling in the house in having to read every short speech from the written word. You have to be bold in politics, having a vote even if they lose puts more pressure on the Tories and places those who voted against May tonight in a more difficult situation.

Its about waiting until it can be successful. We know, without any doubt, that it would fail now. The People's Vote on last night's Newsnight keenly demonstrated that, with the Tory laughing at Labour for not calling a vote of no confidence that she said wouldn't support.

It's not about false "be bold". It is about doing what's right for the country. Pandering to the petty games played by the People's Vote Brigade isn't part of that!

If this comes true, it's pretty bad news for the Tories. We've seen how reliable the DUP are, I don't think the Lib Dems would ever countenance another coalition with the Tories and SNP would never enter into a coalition with the Tories either.

They might not publicly say they want to, but the Lib Dems or SNP I would bet are willing to prop up Labour (if there was another hung parliament, doesn't add up in this one), although the Lib Dems would probably rather it not me Corbyn IMHO.

In short, fingers crossed the Tories never get a majority again!

But waiting is only going to equal waiting for the next GE in 2022. At the moment you have the DUP unhappy and 117 voted against May, strike now and you might get some voting against the Gov.

No it isn't. We wait for outcomes such as Parliament rejecting the deal. The DUP have confirmed that they will support the government. People's Vote have confirmed that they will support the government.

A vote of no confidence is guaranteed to lose now. But that's what they want. They aren't interested in ending this horrid government. They want to focus everything on a People's Vote, no matter what. Their game playing is pathetically transparent.

Don't you think Labour has held the government to account at least decently for the past two years on domestic issues? Again, the problem seems to be Brexit predominating feature of British politics since everything else has ground to a halt, so Labour are being judged on negotiations they're not party to?

Labour has forced the government into numerous policy u-turns and amendments over the last two years, so think you're being a bit unfair here, GB.

On domestic issues they have done better.

Unfortunately at the moment there is realistically only one issue that matters whether we like it or not and on that they have been poor. You can see that from the posts from even Labour leaning people on here.

Then again, by propping up a Tory government, your lot ensured they lost any resemblance of power.

Well your in a minority Corbyn is absolutely hopeless as are the team around him. Some of the back benchers have done OK but Corbyn has been and continues to be hopeless. If Labour were lead by virtually anybody else they would be knocking on the door of power as it stands they are miles and miles away from power even with this farce that is going on with this government.

It is cyclical that the party of the right continues to cling to power while overseeing increasingly disastrous policies by hailing back to the disaster of Labour of the 70s etc. with the warning of how bad it would be. Eventually people decide they have had enough, there is some correction until the left goes too far and then the right is re-elected and the whole cycle repeats.
