We need strengthening all over the pitch but... 17:46 - Dec 15 with 6124 viewsAlexGreen

...I might be tempted to put all the budget into one really good, strong striker. That's by far the biggest area that we're missing and the difference between us being a bottom side and a mid-table one - we have just about enough quality from midfield, and if we can attract a top striker to come and make an immediate impact, that five point difference doesn't seem too far away.

All other parts of the pitch we're either just about ok, have players coming back from fitness, or players on loan who can be recalled and do a job.

If we're going to roll the dice to stay up, maybe it's better to keep the nucleus of the first XI the same and make one big difference, vs another four new players to learn the squad and system.

Seriously, you're rating him as worse than Lee Martin, Tamas Priskin, Jonathan Douglas, Giles Coke.....

Yes because if you watch him closely he has very little if any real football ability, he is just not up scratch in this league , no real nouse at all.

What on earth are you basing Jordan Roberts being better than Lee Martin on?

True that solving striker issues is largely black and white. Though form obvs plays a part.

Problem we had yesterday was not creating anything, as much as not having enough quality up top. It was one of those days though, and the weather and weird reffing didn't help.

Agree generally about the midfield. Christ we missed Skuse yesterday. Lambert era Skuse is Pirloesque

Don't agree we have enough at the back. As others have remarked, Lambert wants to play the ball out as much as possible and at least two out of four of first choice defence are not at all confident on the ball. And our fullbacks are very prone to errors.

We definitely need a presence up front, that's top priority. Midfield is okay if Skuse isn't out too long, he was missed yesterday. Bishop and Dozzell give us something different and we may even get some game time from Huws and Adeyemi after Xmas. Perhaps another attacking option would be good, someone to cover for Sears, Lankester and Edwards in the wide areas. A right back wouldn't go amiss either, although Spence is improving and when he's playing well he's good enough. I don't think more than 2 or 3 signings will do us any favours.

A proper target man is a must & I'm sure Lambert realises that. But with relegation a probability, we won't be putting much, if anything into permanent signings so I expect it will be loans. Putting all your budget into one player would be madness anyway.

He occasionally looks like having some impact on the match.

In a month that isn't March.

Lee Martin often impacted on matches, by getting sent off.

Ikechi Anya, Jacon Butterfield, Joe Ledley, George Thorne, Marcus Olsson and Alex Pearce have all barely played for Derby this year, and any of them would improve the team on loan till the end of the season with a view to buy if we stay up. Scott Hogan and Henri Lansbury at Villa also not getting a look in, would also improve us.

If we got rid of our rubbish loans and got in Scott Hogan, Thorne/Butterfield, and Olsson/Marshall/Anya that would give us a chance. 3 relatively senior players with experience at this level and a point to prove.

Butterfield is sh1t.

But largely agree that there is now a stockpiling of talent in this division akin to the Prem where we are seeing leagues within leagues becoming even more pronounced.

The issue being we are on the wrong side of it again.

Fair enough re Butterfield, still rather him than Chalobah and Edun as a midfield loan. But general point is that if pick up a few seasoned pros that are not getting a game for the top 8 or so teams we'd be much stronger.
